Ugly bunnies
Has anyone ever seen one?!
I know we all look at our own bunnies and think they are the cutest ever (who wouldn't?) but has anyone actually come across a bun that isn't deliciously scrumptiously fluffily cute?
A pondering...

Re: Ugly bunnies
that's natural selection at work for you! Maybe the ancient "Oryctolagus monstrocitus" was tastier than all its prettier cousins and so got eaten more.
Or maybe it was so caught up in just how unattractive it was that it was forever grooming itself, washing itself and staring into shiny puddles wishfully, leaving it open to predation more than the bunnies who were secure in their beauty and were not distracted, enabling them to run and hide, hence surviving to be the ancestors of the modern domestic rabbit, "Oryctolagus cuniculus exquisitus"
Bloody geneticists

Re: Ugly bunnies
I don't think McQueen is "cute" by any means. Attractive, maybe but not cute. However I find cross breeds to be the best looking rabbits....pure breeds are to precise.
Re: Ugly bunnies
Interesting. I don't think I have, though I do think you can be drawn to certain bunnies. I've always felt I was picked by my pets rather then me choosing them. I fell hook line and sinker when I saw Tarquin on Sheffield Forum - but then Sooz always was good at describing her buns in a way that made you fall desperately in love (and it was the description I saw before the photo - seeing the photo just completely finished me off)
Edited: in fact after getting T I had to force myself not to look at the bunnies Sooz had or I might have ended up with a houseful

Re: Ugly bunnies
hideous buns
I think missy is cute.
Maybe it's 'cos they are all such characters. And McQueen is very attractive!
I just don't think I've ever seen a bunny that wasn't attractive.. it's odd Maybe it's something in us that makes all bunnies seem fab

Re: Ugly bunnies
There are rabbits which I wouldn't choose to have but it's not because I think they are ugly, I just find myself drawn to certain bunnies.
I think often because you see them before you get to know them most people get a rabbit on looks rather than personality.

Carlton was pretty ugly when I first got him but I didn't love him any less. :luv: He's grown into his looks with age.

She did mellow eventually but when I adopted her she was 6kg of growling, lunging, biting Frenchie
Hence the grumpy name!!
Mind you I'd have been grumpy if I'd been used as a breeding machine and confined to a hutch I could not turn around in.......

Re: Ugly bunnies
this is a bit of a coincidence that you posted this, as i logged on to start a thread about this!!!
well, i had two friends around, who hadn't seen my (giant) buns since they were smaller, you know, cute, little and fluffy (well not really, but i think you know what i mean!) and they loved them, but now they are 4 times the size they were, different colours, and more robust, they told me they think my rabbits are really ugly, and that they can never see rabbits in the same way ever again thanks to hermione and oscar.
I was infact quite upset about this, as they are basically my very premature children But i dont think they knew how much i loved my pets, and it was pretty hurtful to hear.
But no, ive never seen a ugly rabbit, they are all too cute man!

Re: Ugly bunnies
I find something very sweet about the laidback gentle giantness of Conti's. I certainly don't think they are ugly.
I guess thats non rabbit folk for you!

Re: Ugly bunnies
awwh thanks guys! I just think they look like 'ordinary' cliched rabbits, but with slightly larger ears i really cant see a reason why they would think they are ugly!

Re: Ugly bunnies
Coco, that's soooo rude. I love your buns, don't you listen to a word...
I don't think any buns are ugly, but I must confess that there is a breed that I just don't like looking at...not cos they're ugly, but they just don't look like a bunny to me and no,I'm not goingto say which
