Hi all,

I was wondering.... are your rabbits vocal? Thumper grunts at me when she's excited to see me, excited to be fed or wants her bed! She sounds like a little pig (it's so cute!). She never did this as young bunny, it maybe started when she was about 5 I think, but the older she gets, the more vocal she gets.

I'm curious as I've never known a bunny to be so "chatty" and people look at me like I have 2 heads when I mention it.

Thanks Very Happy

Hiya,

Thumper sounds lovely! My two, Willow and Felix are just three months and they do not make any sound vocally at all. Maybe its because they are young, i have no idea! Very Happy

I think I should have called Felix 'thumper', she thumps when there is a cat in the garden, when a plane comes over, quite alot! Wave

Hi,

Thank you for your reply!

Aww.. Willow and Felix are beautiful! I bet they are full of fun!!

Thumper used to thump LOTS. She doesn't so much now she is an old lady, only when she eye balls a spider really, she is terrified of them, it's so cute! I think I should change her name from Thumper to Grunter, it would be more fitting now Wink

It's quite some power they've got in those back legs, isn't it?!

Gloria used to sort of sigh if I pestered her too much. It was a bit like all the air being squeezed out of her. Wolfie grunts if I annoy him - which is all the time and Felix is completely quiet.

Thumper sounds lovely. Priceless that she's scared of spiders. Laughing Laughing Gloria had a thing for pigeons and would chase then if she got the chance.

What a character!
Tigger was playing with a game that I hid treats under and because I wasn't refilling fast enough she grunted at me.

Binky is very territorial , he grunts if I place my hands inside his bed when try changing the area ... its quite loud and usually goes alongside him trying to box me at the same time... otherwise he is very loving.... He just doesnt like me changing his furniture at all, I wait now until he is outside before I do it Laughing

Wave I've got a grunter. Laughing

Harley is a 'play grunter' and a 'go-away grunter'. He grunts and binkies when we play (especially with his toy that has big bells on it, he loves making noise). Very Happy

Hehehe...that sounds so cute!!
Penelope does a mild grunt when I give her head a rub and she's enjoying it.
She's also scared of spiders too and gives a mighty thump when she sees one and then runs to my feet to make sure I get it.

She doesn't make a sound when I change her cage, but the minute I finish it, she hops in and re-arranges it to how she wants it!!! Such a cute thing to see, pushing her paws out to move everything. I try and get it right each time, but clearly she wants to do it her way . Am sure if she could speak she would tell me how to do it how she likes, but for now she sticks to giving me a 'look' when she hops in to arrange!!! Laughing

Kenzo was very vocal.
Chewy never makes a sound, apart growling when he's mad at us.

Snuffie is pretty quiet I have to say although I have had little bunnies in the past who talk in their sleep.

Oh yeah, Roo is very vocal! We often have little chats and occasionally arguments! She circles me ALOT, whilst making this weird honking/mooing noise...But as for her grunting, the meaning of that with Roo varies...She grunts when she is excited or playing, she also does it if I tell her to get off the sofa, she grunts when she runs into her cage cos I have just put her food down...She is like a child who has just discovered her vocal chords ATM, she just likes to make noise, purely cos she has discovered she can! I personally find it quite sweet Very Happy

I'm glad to hear that she's not the only one that is scared of spiders! She goes mad and can't get away quick enough. Some times I have to get up in the night and rescue her because the thumping is so loud.

I came through to sleep in the living room in the early hours of this morning because the bedroom was just too warm. At 8.45 am she was beside the sofa, looking up at me grunting. I think it was time to get up, haha.

She makes me laugh so much Very Happy

Ha...I have to do this too. She makes so much noise that I have no choice but to get up and rescue her from the spider in the room.
Sometimes, the spider is nowhere near her, sometimes on the other side of the room, but she bangs her cage so loudly I have to get up and get it!!
They can be so funny sometimes Very Happy

All mine have grunted at some point - but mostly its Vivi. He used to loads when he was a lone house bun free ranging, before I got the dog. He used to binky and grunt everywhere. Now however, his grunting isn't a happy noise - he's quite territorial since getting a wifey and grunts over food especially.

The oddest grunt I heard was Freyas, she rarely grunts, but its so high pitched, I didn't realise it was her at first, very bizzare noise...

Aw this all sounds so cute! I love vocal bunnies. My josephine is silent as they come, but when Bruce is upset (denied treats) or scared (my parents come into their bedroom) he whines.

Our little Netherland Dwarf Enya use to mutter when we first brought her home but she doesn't do it anymore, I find a couple of our nethies grumble at us when we go to clean out their indoor hutches Smile
