Vibes for Florence please Empty Vibes for Florence please

Post by icedancer Tue Oct 04, 2011 4:39 pm

Ok I'm feeling like a right bad bunny mum right now.

She was 12 weeks old yesterday so I introduced green bits. She had a bit of parsley on Sunday, and some celery yesterday (just under half a stick). Today she's had a a bit of an upset tum (big wet poo left in litter tray), hasn't eaten hardly any pellets during the way (normally bowl is empty by now) and has left some plantain. She doesn't appear to have eaten much hay and isn't playing. In the night she kept waking me up so I know she was active then, but this evening she's just sat in her litter tray, either washing or just sat there, ignoring me.

I've cleaned her house out, and normally as soon as she goes back she leaves about 30 poos but I can't see any so far. I'm really worried I've given her something wrong. She didn't even come over to see me when I got in from work, which is unusual.

Poor little one. You may feel like a bad bunny mum but you definately aren't!

I would recommend introducing only one type of greens at a time so if something like this does happen then you know the culprit. I think herbs are generally more gentle on the tummy so it could have been the celery.

I hope her tummy sorts itself out and when it does I'd leave it a couple of days before trying fresh greens again. Maybe start her out with herbs or a small piece of spring greens?

I suggest you get some Pro-biotic to use whilst introducing new foods as well.

She now hasn't done a poo for at least four hours. I've managed to get her to nibble some hay by handing it to her, and I put the hay rack right next to the litter tray at one point and she was eating a bit while sat in there. But the pellets have still gone untouched.

Should I get her out for a run around or leave her be in her house?

I meant to get some of the Pro-biotic the other day but I forgot. I've got a few personal issues at the moment and my mind is all over the place. I work just down the road from a Pets at Home so will get some tomorrow.

I feel so guilty!

You're best with 'non watery' veggies as a starter. Rosemary and thyme are great herbs to start with as they are quite woody.

Maybe worth popping her to the vets if she still hasn't pooed by the morning x

Sorry to hear she is unwell, they are such a worry!

Would you be letting her out of her house inside? If yes, I would let her out to see if it perks her up a bit. It might help with getting things moving poo wise too.

I would let her out honey for a little run around it might help get her botty moving.

Also try and get some water into her. If she is dehydrated because of the runny poo's her little tum may slow down so will need some fluids. Make sure the water isnt cold, just slightly luke warm is best.

Keep us updated hun x

aww don't worry your not a bad bunny mummy!

Defo only introduce only one new food at a time and only give them a tiny bit! when i give buttons anything new i litterally only give him a chunk about 1cm square, then leave it a day to check it hasnt upset his tummy, then give him a bit again the day after, until i know he is fine with it.

Also i heard that with celery, you have to make sure you get all the stringy bits off the outside, because those bits are really bad for them!

Don't feel bad though, your not the first and im sure you wont be the last!! Hugs I hope she starts eating again soon!!

I would do as Katie says and get some warm water into her to help shift that tum.

You certainly aren't a bad bunny mummy love, it is so easy to blame yourself when bunnies get poorly.

How is the little chum today?

I got her some Pro-C on the way home from work so that's now in her bottle. She is a good drinker so fingers crossed that won't change with that in there. That stuff stinks doesn't it!

Her pellet bowl had been emptied over night, so I gave her a few this morning and loads more hay. Pellets haven't all gone, but she was taking Plantain from me when I got home so it is looking up.

Thanks for thinking about her! I will be much more careful in future.

I have just come back from the pub and have been greeted by lots and lots of proper poos! Happy Dance I have never been so happy to see a dirty cage. She has emptied all of the litter out of the litter tray, so it's just newspaper in there, so she's been playing which is a good sign. As I type she is munching on the hay so fingers crossed we got away with it.

That was a scary time last night.

Thanks everyone!

Came home from work to a few uneaten cecals. This morning she was so active too, doing bunny 50s and also demanded to come out to play before I went to work.

Could excess dried Plantain be the cause? I have been giving her quite a bit, and it's something I've never fed a bun before.

She's now just got fresh hay in there. She keeps putting her paws in her bowl but I'm ignoring her! She's been cleaned out so is all nice and tidy again, and has fresh water with Pro-C in it.
