OMG please dont go mad

Ive came down this morning to find a baby in Roses cage
I dunno how the hell she could have been caught!!! she only ever goes in the pen or in the cage or the living room. Ive been super vigilant as she is due to be spayed the week after next.
There was no blood nothing so I didnt know who it had come from, last night I put in one of the bairns old t shirts for them all to snuggle in, I dont give them bedding as they are in the kitchen and its pretty warm. She had tipped her litter tray, lapping bowl food bowl it was utter chaos. The 4 kits were all say in a row just still looking at this kit moving in loads of fur!

What on earth has gone on? gizmo and sibs are 8 weeks on Tue. Ive been realy upset all day about it as I never want any of my girls having babies thats why Im rehoming the boys I can and getting the others snipped.
Im devistated for her (btw she is fine just sleeping in her tray) x

Is there just one baby? Is the baby okay?

The ladies can be mated very soon after giving birth I think this is what has happened.

I think the answer going forward is perhaps to get all of them neutered?

When did she last have adult male contact? (Rose is the kits mum isn't she?) If Dad was still around immediately after birth she could have been caught then.

Just a thought Hun, have you thought about having them all neutered and bonding them into pairs and rehoming them as pairs? That way you will feel more confident they will be happy.

but the kits are 8 weeks? She has not had contact with another male, apart maybe for nose to nose through the bars but thats as close as It gets, Im very vigilant with my boys as they try and dig out.

Romans in for the snip the same time she was ment to go in in 2 weeks, I havent a clue whats went on, the baby is fine, quite small but very livley and bald as a coot!

Im in the process of having them all done, just checking them off my list as I go. xx

Glad they are ok. Is it def rose's baby? Could one of the other buns have got in there?

Has she been out with the other girls and are you sure they are all girls? The kits shouldn't be mature for another few weeks so someone else must have caught her.

yeah they are all defo girls,
moon -had babies not with me.
Flex -had babies not with me.
Freida -had babies not with me.
Domino -had babies not with me.
Poppy sexed correct
gerty sexed correct

Next doors bun was done about 6 weeks ago and does get through but as i said she is always in the run x

I wondered if they could be anyone elses but defo hers she is looking after it. I wondered if her older kits could of caught her also?

8 weeks is really too young - sexual maturity is at about 3 months. But you should probably be thinking about moving the other buns out now so she can concentrate on her newborn and so the older kits don't do it any damage.

Yeah I moved them out as soon as I noticed him, think they were as shocked as me!

Thanks nikkie. I just cant belive it, and I dont want people to think im irresponcible as my buns are my life im out every day with them.

Check with your vet but I would have thought at about 6-8 weeks when the baby has been weaned.

I don't know your situation or how many rabbits you have, but I would get in touch with a local rescue & see if they can help look for homes for the ones you need homes for, and I'd be thinking about getting all remaining rabbits neutered as soon as physically possible

I have 14 all the girls are in a shed and the boys in individual cages

Wow that's a lot. Do you have a big house? I'm in a one bed flat and got bunny stuff coming out my ears lol xx

yeah all the girls live together apart from twink who is bonded with jasper, I was hoping in time when the boys are done ill be able to let them all together. I know it will be a while but will work on it then they can live in the shed all together and not be alone, although I think twink and jasper will never let them selves be accepted into the group.

Im getting a 15 foot long shed 5 foot wide there is 3 compartments which they can run into so when they are locked away in the winter at least they will have loads of room. The boys will be all done by then x

You do know that even when the boys are done they are likely to fight if they have access to does.
