I actually had to scrape ice off my windscreen this morning!! so im guessing its about 0 degrees in cornwall!!
Well, on Daybreak weather, they've been talking about thei -10 for the last couple of days, but on the BBC weather maps etc, there's no sign of it - so Im a bit confused. They were reporting this morning that scores of people have died across Eastern Europ because of temps. of -30, and it's coming our way - but as yet, I can't see that happening tomorrow, but better be prepared!

I know I live indoor but you can never be too careful in the cold weather. I have seen my bunmum wrap the squeakers hutch up in this stuff so it must be good. Also it looks quite like the stuff the people who do the long bor-ing running wrap themselves up in so it must be good!'

Re: -10 degrees
Well it is officially cold now. Not even 6pm and it has dropped to 0 degrees here in cornwall. When Cornwall hits 0 it must be properly cold everywhere else! I am glad the man fixed the heating.

Re: -10 degrees
Its mostly in the high ground, but its still gonna be -3 - 5 the rest of the areas, just cleaned out my buns, added tubs full of hay and covered the tubs with carboard boxes to act as lids, rosey keeps jumping on top of hers tho. Smokey is already sitting in his half asleep. I put loads of straw in and around them, filled charlies tub, cat carrier and his tube with straw so he can find somewhere to curl up, covered the window area with the extra straw (farm batch) so that stops draft getting in. Will check them before I go to bed to see if a blanket needs put over the wee buns cages and charlie needs extra hopefully none o them need more, the buns insulations is better than charlies its warmer for sure so he has extra areas for curling to sleep in. Tucked the cat box under the level angled away from the door way where any draft would be.

I'm going to have to buy some straw to insulate the bed even more. Just hope they realise it isn't really for eating.

Re: -10 degrees
Thumper never ate her straw The again, she never ate hay either...
I remember Sooz saying that buns will choose to eat hay over straw every time and even in the unlikely event they do eat it, it doesn't do any harm. It just doesn't have any benefits.

I'm feeling it too, and it's minus 3 here. This flat is so poorly insulated, that we the storage heaters on full, and it was still only 15 in the lounge this morning. Brrr.

Re: -10 degrees
It is only 0 degrees here in Bodmin. I have just topped up the piggies. their water bottle was frozen despite having been double wrapped in silver bubble wrap last night. I have put in lots of extra hay and readigrass topped up the food bowl. Then I managed to grab little pig treacle to check how cold she was - warm ears warm feet, happy piggy happy, pigmum!

Re: -10 degrees
I'm sending y'all some warming vibes! How can you stay warm with that cold!?!? It's rare that we have such cold temps where I live, but they do happen occasionally and it kills off so many of the bushes and shrubs. I hope it gets warmer for you all very soon!

Just about to go out and get spring greens in case they are in short supply when it snows. I bought two bales of hay this week too.
I hate going out to the buns to find frozen water bowls I feel so sorry for them. I bought extra heat pads to put under the bowls. In theory that should stop them freezing for a few hours but it hasn't for the full 8 hours that I sleep

Re: -10 degrees
It hasn't been as cold as it is with you guys down south. It has been -1 or so. Today it is just rainy and miserable. I think they are forecasting snow on high ground but that will be over the Cairngorms etc.
Hope all your buns are OK but don't think the weather is going to be as cold as the papers led us to believe.
My buns coped with -18 two winters running and were perfectly fine. As long as they have loads of hay to eat and cosy into, a good thick coat and a dry warm hutch, they will be OK

Re: -10 degrees
It's been pretty cold here the last few nights. The outdoor buns have all had extra hay, and Humum has had to break the ice on their water bowls in the morning. This morning poor Taffy was licking the ice, and Humum had visions of him getting stuck to it by his tongue
Funnily enough, they have all been spending more time outside but this might be because at least it has been fairly dry.
Is it ok to put a drop of olive oil in the water, and is it true this helps stop it from freezing?
