No veg. Empty No veg.

Post by Thumper2001 Mon Apr 09, 2012 6:45 pm

I've not given Molly and Junior any veg Embarassed Not one little bit!

They seem happy enough with their pellets, 3 types of hay, mini alfalfa hay bales, dried plantain and leaves. I've also got dandelion, Molly likes it but Junior isn't quite so sure of it.

Am I being mean? Or doing them any harm?

You're all going to think I'm a nut case, but another reason is, I haven't been able to face the veg aisle in Asda since Thumper died Sad

Oh sweetheart x x x x

I dont think baby buns are supposed to have veg anyway (I think), so you wont have done them any harm at all.

You prob could start to introduce a little now though if you wanted to.

It won't do them any harm at all! In fact Joey's vet says to keep it limited anyway. He only gets the odd rocket leaf and rosemary sprig!

Under 12 weeks is a no to veg anyhow. My two don't have much, tbh Florence hardly had any until she went to the rescue and I saw the veggie salad they had. They have it now here, but not as much as in the rescue. They seem quite happy with their hay, dried herbies and the occassional celery, carrot and fresh herbies. I'm currently growing them some herbs from seeds, as they are expensive to keep buying.

Hugs one day you might just fancy giving it a go, but if not hey with grass and dandelions I'm sure they won't complain.

We are tempted to stop all greens in this house and just buy them in for the boarding bunnies as we have had nothing but tummy upsets, GI stasis, bloat and dirty bottoms this year so far.
The Spring Greens don't seem to last very long they are mostly wilted or have brown marks on them or are just awful. We have a customer who's buns are on just a small amount of dry pellets twice a day and unlimited hay and I have never seen two buns with shinier coats and so healthy looking. I am seeing more and more customers who do not give greens to their bunnies just pellets and unlimited hay and Mike and I are thinking of doing the same. Most of our buns are just on greens and unlimited hay, we are going to have a word with our vet next time we go and see what she thinks .

My pair don't get huge amounts. In the main, fruit and veg is given daily for variety, in quantities that would probably count as treats. Their diet is a small amount of pellets and unlimited hay and they are really healthy.

I don't think you're mean!

We try and stick to 80% hay 10% veg and 10% nuggs. Although in reality it's prob more 15% veg and 5% nuggs.

Mr Snuffles gets a little fruit and veg each day, but he is always eating his hay which is good.

Hugs

I didn't think for one minute that I was doing them any harm, but I really waned to know what you guys thought.

They are so content with what they have that I really don't feel the need to rock the boat at the moment. I don't want to do anything that might jeopardise their love of hay.

I'll continue to give it some thought Smile

Our lot get very little veg these days, and don't seem any the worse for it Thumbs Up

The veg they do get is more herbs than veggies too...
