He wanted to come out of his cage so let him out but he just kept running round to much which increased his breathing even more, so have put him back in.... Crying or Very sad

Managed to get some little mashed cookies in him and he actually drank water on his own...

Still keeps running up and down the cage in bursts... Hoping in next hour that the Septrin will kick in.

I dont see the point in rining the vets about upping the dose they wont know.... I had to tell them the dose today! Sick of bunnies being treated like 2nd class pets.

Anyway perhaps Katie will be on soon and know if he can have a little more cos its a long night till the next dose at 6.30am .....

ah he just layed down. Love him x

I have just been looking in the 'when your rabbit needs special care' book and it says the dosage for meloxicam is 0.1-0.3mg per kg of rabbit per day. Because it can last for up to 24hrs I thought it was usual to give just once.

Has anyone tried sending Katie a PM to see if she gets it?

I'm happy to do it if no one has already Smile

Oh my goodness - im so sorry I wasnt around last night!

Mr C told me that a bun needs x5 their kilo dosage twice daily. however that would mean he would need a 15 kilo dose. Sound a lot but charlie weighs just over 2kg and he is on a 10 kilo dose twice a day.

I am not a vet of course but I think removing his pain is much more important than anything else right now.

I would be concerned that this hasnt abscessed.

Charlie also has 1ml of septrin.

Hi Katie,

thanks so much for reply, Ive got to work out the different as your dose is in kilo ... Im giving it to him in mg/ml 0.5 mg.

Only had 2 hrs sleep ... somthing weird is happening.. he is calmer only stomped few times in night. Not charging anymore but occassionally like once an hour he stops and does this thing with his head... vet thought it was due to pain but Im not sure now.... Its like he is scanning or head going in circles , his eyes are doing it aswell. I tranced him but he doesnt appear to have head tilt/ dizziness.

Im worried that there is no sign of abcess but the vet last night couldnt see /was gentle.. if there is one bunny vet today stands more chance of seeing something.

You guys have writen so much about scanning so off to read more and search for videos of this .. Im going to video him for the vet today ...

Ive only managed to get a small amount of banana in him but he is drinking. He does appear to at least be getting naps now.

Dawn

Dental abscesses can rarely be seen from the outside so he may need an xray.

Broadly o.1ml is slightly more than a kg dose.

The loxicom syringe we had was white with red writing on the side.....on that syringe a 10kg dose is to the no 10 on the syringe.

have you got any critical care so that you can get some food into him?

Oh, Dawn! I just saw this! It's 6:30 AM here and I do so hope your Binky is doing better and a bunny vet got to examine him. I wonder if bunnies can get dry sockets after a tooth is removed like humans do. They are excruciating. I've had several. No infection, but the gum heals over prematurely and cannot continue to heal underneath.

Whatever the cause, you and Binky are in my prayers and I'm sending Haremail squadrons with naval support overflowing with get well vibes for Binky and bunches of Hugs for you.

HI , you are the best... thanks for al lyour messages, just dont know how Id cope without you.

Things got worse this morning, his last spasming episode was bad as in his darted into his cage and bloodied his nose Crying or Very sad Episodes only last for a few seconds then he is calm again... is it teh pain or is it some kind of fit ? It only happens once every one or two. Vet has taken Binky in to watch him for afternoon.. I took a video in incase he doesnt do the spasming in front of the vet and the vet will watch video this afternoon.... Suppose to go back at 5.30pm.

Kate I have been syringing food into him watered down timothy hay pellets and little banana. He has been drinking ok.

Does anyone know if this looks like Binky is having a fit ? So sad cant stop crying......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTM8XMqnzZE

To Mike and I as we have both just watched it 3 times it look's like he is having some sort of fit ( we think and this is just us,) from intense pain .

Post by cheryl'n'bruce'flo Tue May 22, 2012 12:56 pm

I think it depends on whether the vet has given you a decanted amount of the loxicom or the actual bottle as to whether you get the weight syringes. Bruce needs metacam often enough or quickly enough that our vets sell me the small bottles of it which comes with a syringe that fits the bottle which means less wastage and it is marked in weight not mls. But when we have had it decanted it is normally just given with a 1ml syringe. I think the knowledge about the amounts needed for rabbit analgesia are taking their times to filtrate down to the grass roots of vets.

I am glad his pain is under control now. Like Katie I suspect an abscess. the vets only need to give light sedation for mouth exam and xray so the risks are minimal and it is the only good way to get a look at the back of the mouth. Bruce has had to be sedated on more than one occasion for my vet to see whether his molars are spurring as he chomps when the otoscope is in the mouth or he blocks the view with his tongue. My vet is very good and has the confidence to say she can't see but I think some new vets or vets that have interests in other animals don't have the confidence to say that as they think it would be like admitting fault. I think sometimes you need to be quite clear about getting an accurate idea of what 'i can't see a problem' actually means. And don't be afraid to say well the rabbit specialist would do it like this... Whilst the vets have the diagnosing specialism I think as owners we need to acknowledge that we often have the specialism in handling the buns and holding the full case history of them in our heads.

Thank you t oboth of you for watching the video .... the vet thought it was due to intense pain.. its just strange it only happens once an hour or so even on opiod shot..... Id rather it be due to pain as long as we can fix the source... but savy vet due to look at him in 2 hours and counting.....

thanks again x
