Oh Bertie, you silly, silly boy!
Another trip to the vet with our Bertie this morning. The big dafty has been fighting again. He's pulled out a claw and won't put weight on his paw. He also has the scratches I am accustomed to seeing on him on a daily basis.
I think it's a stray he is fighting, and I worry he'll end up with FIV
We're getting him insured, he's an expensive boy!
Please send positive vibes that he's not done anything too bad!

Re: Oh Bertie, you silly, silly boy!
Is keeping him in an option at all? as you know mine are all indoor because I live in a flat. But they are all happy indoors, Smokey-Joe was a stray, well not a stray as such his previous owner didn't bother to look after him he also flinched a lot so think he was abused. He was a full outdoor cat now he is a full indoor cat took him a while to get used to but now he loves it. He also has no use of one paw. Hope he is ok.

Re: Oh Bertie, you silly, silly boy!
I don't think we could keep him in, or the other cats. He is just miserable when kept in. We had to keep him in a few weeks back when he had his bad eye, and he was so unhappy he used to cry at the cat flap sometimes. And there were far more fights between our 3 as well. And while he will use the litter tray under sufferance, he holds it for ages, and I worry he'll end up with bladder crystals.
The vet thinks he is a definite outdoor cat and also said that he was entire so long the fighting/territorial instincts are here to stay. <sigh>

Have u tried giving him Zyklene? It's for behaviour/stress. I give it to one of mine and it calms him down.

Back from the vet. Thankfully it doesn't look like anything too serious, but he was very uncooperative with the examination and was obviously in a lot of pain. The painkiller seems to have made a world of difference. We have to keep him indoors for 24 hours, and if he seems no better tomorrow he's likely to need an anaesthetic to examine it properly. While under they will also remove a smashed tooth from one of his previous escapades. Bless him, he'd only allow the vet to give him injections when I cuddled him.

Yes and he is vaccinated, but obviously no vaccine is 100% and sometimes I get worried. Less worried now though, I spoke to the vet and she reassured me

Aw, that's good. At least he is as protected as he can be

Re: Oh Bertie, you silly, silly boy!
He's fine today, unless you get too close to touching the paw, but I guess it must be just like having a nail torn out at the root!
We now have him insured, so we won't have to worry so much about future big bills although we need to check if there are any exclusions.
It's a good job he's cute!
