Dougal is free roaming Empty Dougal is free roaming

Post by BugsBunny Tue Sep 10, 2013 3:58 pm

First of all I would just like to apologise for my absence lastely, i have not been on here much as not been well and then busy with dougal etc.

We finally got the house bunny proofed and let Dougal out his room for the first time yesterday and he loves it, he spends more time in the bedroom with me next to my chair, running around and being norty now and again seeind what he ca and cannot do Laughing  but he is mostly a good ickle bun and he using his new litter tray he has 1 in here and 1 in his room. he seems to love our bedrrom the most, he is next to my chair as u type this sleeping and relaxing.

When I coaxed him into his bedroom last night and thut the gate to keep him in at night he was not a happy bun at all Laughing Laughing  he was stroppy and did not understand why he could not stay out in the humans bedroom. He will everntaully but for now i am getitng him used to having to go back in his room for when we need to do that any time with him for saftey etc. Also we are wating til he is neutered so that when we do in fact shut him in the room for rest and recovery he wond think he is suddenly being punished.

Dougal keeps having at the guitars in the bedroom, he is determined to be a rock bunny I think Laughing .

He is doing well though and is such a pleasure to have aorund the house more, he wont use the stairs yet, he is very unsure but I am sure in time he will, but I am going to let him roam down stairs tomorrow a bit, take him down in carrier then back up, unless he will hop upstairs, we will see.

Just thought I wolud update you all and I will get some photos up soon of him.

oh and just 1 thing , our handy man came to fix a socket and light and did not seem impressed that hay was everywhre so i am hoping he does not complain to our kand lady who he of corse works for, they are lovely people and he was not being nasty but he was worried about it being a fire hazzard and it gets everywhere here so we are going to put it in boxes etc, dougal will still pul bits out though as he is a rabbit but I have been meaning to sort his room out propelry anyways and he was just concerned for safety/ We are not messy , but as you all know, hay is so hard to keep tiday, espcially when you have a bun who loves it so much. Anybody any good suggestins for holeding hay in rather than expensive hay racks or cardboard boxes?

If i am not on as often it is just when i#I am ill or busy or both but just wanted you all to know how we all are and that I am not being ignorent.

Hi hunni ,

I'm glad to hear the little monkey is having so much fun!

I use a plastic dog basket. I put a bowl of hay in one side - he jumps in has a nibble and jumps out. Works a treat. Ill try and find a link to a thread it's on.

I'm glad Dougal has been having fun Very Happy

Is it the hay in Dougal's room he was saying about? For it to be a fire hazard, there needs to be a source of ignition, so there's very little risk really. Do you have a smoke detector up just outside Dougal's door or at the top of the stairs there? It might not hurt to have a plan in place for if the worst was to happen even if it was just keeping a bucket in the bathroom ready to be filled with water if needs be. At least then if your landlady says anything, you have considered the risks. (I do worry about our shed-buns and fire, the only saving grace is that they can all get themselves outside.)

We use dog beds for litter trays, too - megazorb in the bottom and a thin layer of hay on top to stop it getting trodden everywhere, then a thick mound of hay at one end for nomming on. We have some spare if you want to try Dougal with one Thumbs Up

I did use a wall basket, one of these for Gizmo but I worried that he could get his head in the gaps so took it away again Hmmm

thanks for the help you 2, that would be great amanda and much appreciated. i am fine with his litter tray as he has a couple of decent sized ones in the house, 1 in his cage, 1 in here and 1 down stairs should we go down there but would be great putting hay on for him and reduce the trodding, our house i like a stable or farm even Laughing .I aint fussed as I can clean it up etc , just looks bad to everyone else, my family do not bother, mine and stes family at all, but to others like the land lady it may be a put off and I do not want them making excuses to tell us to keep him to 1 room or i a cage. sge is lovely and dubt she would but ya never know.

I am letting him get sued to up here first more before taking him down I think. I am worried about him atm. since coming in here yesterday he has not eaten much hay at all and he normally noms it all day long and loves it, just wondering if he has eaten some wardrobe or something and it has bothered him, he is pooping, but some are softer, round but soft and he has had some extra c cells so i am going to keep an eye on him. Just not used to him not nomming it a  alot.

Thanks for the link too katie.

thanks Rob, yep he was after the guitar this morn and I could not find him anywehre this morn, then had a feeling so moved the guitar forward and he was between that and the dehumidifier that is blocking off the back of the wardrobe Laughing Laughing .

I assume that if he is spending most of his time in your room, you have put hay and water in there for him? It might just be the excitement that he's not stopping to eat as much hay as usual and that's caused the softer poops. Doubtful that anything he might chew would upset him, and I'd imagine you'd hear him at it...

ye he has tons of hay in here and plenty of water, he is a bowl in here and hay is everywhere Laughing  he prefers to eat on the floor and yep he has been in here with me all day and night, poor hudad will think I have abandoned him Laughing Laughing , actualy he will be glad of no naggng as he keeps saying i do, it is not nagging if I ask him to do stuff and would not need to ask/nag if he did it in the first place Laughing .

he nibbles some but not a lot, just worried with him being such a good hay eater, he has really settled in here and he will not like being put back again but he will get used to it soon. It is good that he goes back as he will more than liekly eat the hay more once he is, well i hope as whe he goes back is when I go bed. Atm he is sat next to my pc sleeping, can tell he is sleeping, his ickle nose is not twitching.

I need to get more toys and stuff for him too, as if he is not spoily enough Laughing  but he could do with some things to play with, he does not bother with the cat balls he has or the cool twisty rattle thing toy or ewt like that. he likes crardboard so will make him some, not sure what else to get him really. Ang good suggestions from the hoppers?

He is indeed, he is loving it, he in the bedroom with me as I type again Laughing . I do not think he will let me go down stairs and leave him for too long, he is enjoying his humums company too much, he keeps following me and when I go to the bog he is lying outside waiting for me. He is eating hay on here now more which is good as yesterday and day before he was not eating hay as usual, like Amanda said, it is probably just excitment and he is getting used to a different room. he is very relaxed and binky Laughing  but he was not sure about eating lots of hay in here as he is very fussy and particular about where he likes his hay and he prefers eating it fr5om the floor. Which apparently cos in his room it is all over, it is like h has hay parties and I get it all over too that it is a fire hazzard. i think that is bs as long as thee's no ignition source, i think what barry meant was it looks a mess. But who cares, it aint like we are mucky people, i clean the house a lot and his cage once a week, his litter trays every couple of days, he does not pee anywhere , he does not spray pee at all, he only does this in his litter trays and he barely poops out of them and when he does it is only pellets and I move them right away. Some cats and dogs are messier than Dougal and not as well behaved. Plus we are good residents, they have way worse formt he stories I hear, I will tidy it a bit but not point going over board majorly as it will just get messy again.

Have a look at Theo's room - he has hay in various places but contained in trays so it's tidier. Theo will pee on it if it gets on the floor No

Toys -these go down well with everybun here:

Corn rattle rollers

The trio pack of fun balls, and the large seagrass ball which is actually huge and a real bargain

The jingle dumbell (aka the dinner bell Wink )

Everybun needs a dinosaur

and a caterpillar

Thanks Holly, I will and I will also tell him aunt Holly said so too. You would definately have a soft spot for him if you saw him and knew him. he is a darlin and a very handsome chappy.

I will let you know what we get him and make him and keep you up to date to see if you agree if we are spoiling him enough or not Wink

I have a soft spot for your Rory, he is so cute and sounds mishcivious and a brat of course as you refer to hiim, I love brat buns. I refer to Dougal as king Laughing Laughing , since he is the king of this house and I am is minion Laughing .

I keep meaning to sort thorugh the photos we have of him and post more of him as I have only posted some once a while back.

Thanks for the help Hun. they seem good toys , so iI will get a couple. he has a big willow ball but never others with it or the cat ball witha beel in but he might with the one of those you linked to aboove and the dinasaur is cool, I think he may like that. He is fussy with what he will play with is our king, so these not being expensive will be good to try out, 1 or 2 of them. It is hard to know what he will play with, the thing he actually plays with and loves most is his tent, I maight get him anohter 1 for in here. He dives in it and roley poleys a few times over ( flips the ten) and then he jumos out, sometimes he has it on its side whilst he is in too and peek a boo's doing a meerkat impresison from it, it is funny when he bullys his tent. he also likes running thorugh his tube.
