My curiously strange rabbit!
Sasha and Barley have been outside for a few months now and have settled down really well and seem to like being outside.
Sasha started to dig herself a burrow. It doesn't bother me because the other buns did it and it was really just a bolt hole to scoot into if she gets a fright. It started on Saturday and by the evening, she had dug a tunnel as long as my forearm. The next day it was up to my shoulder and she was looking very pleased with herself.
The next morning I went out to feed them and the burrow had completely disappeared! I poked it with a stick and it wasn't just the entrance covered over, but actually filled in. A complete mystery. Then this morning when I went out, the burrow had been dug out again. Now this evening, I have come home and the burrow has yet again been filled in.
Sasha must be doing it because nobody else is doing it! What a very strange rabbit!!

What an odd thing to do ! Do you think she might have made a nest in there?

Re: My curiously strange rabbit!
I reckon she is digging in Barley's direction, but filling in the end foot or so every so often so you don't get suspicious. You'll come home one day and Barley will have been duffed up but Sasha will be sitting in her *completely secure* run looking smug
Or, she is just barmy, which would explain Molly...

How very strange that she fills it back in as if hiding something

Re: My curiously strange rabbit!
Great theory Sparky except the hole goes away from Barley's run, although he is greatly interested and thought that he might have a little dig himself, but I quickly stopped that!
To explain, on the morning of my departure to the airport last month to go on holiday, Barley decided to have a bit of a dig never having shown any interest for the two months he had been outside previously, I filled it in and put a big rock over it and then had to go. He then carried on digging, and next morning scared the hell out of my poor neighbour who was on feed duty. She thought how cute it was to see a little wild rabbit loose in the garden, before realising it was Barley!!! Took her 3 hours and another neighbour to catch him! So NO digging!!!)
It is the strangest behaviour. I honestly wondered if someone was coming in and filling in the burrow, but it can't be anyone by Sasha doing it. I though the entrance was just blocked, but when I poked a stick in, it was solid all the way down, although very loose, especially as it has been dug three times now! It is filled in at the moment, so it will be interesting to see if she digs it out tomorrow morning.
Will keep you posted on my crazy rabbit! Thumper2001, Molly definitely has inherited the crazy gene from her mum!!

Re: My curiously strange rabbit!
How precious! She loves to dig, but she is smart. She saw what you did to Barley's dig. This way she can dig. And Dig. And dig and you leave her be at it. Of course.....it could be a trick. The real dig might go to Barley and she is just trying to sneak past your vigilance! How I love a naughty bun!

Re: My curiously strange rabbit!
It does explain some of Molly's behaviour!!!
Is it always in the same place?! Do you think it's because of what happened to Dave, and she finds it comforting or something? Just clutching at straws!!!
Have Sasha and Barley decided there is no way they are going to be bonded?!

Re: My curiously strange rabbit!
She dug the burrow and then filled it in, so it is the same burrow that she just uncovers. Very strange!
I think it is because she's a doe. Buns tend to like to have a hidey hole to go into. All of my female buns have been diggers so it is obviously their job!
It is looking increasingly likely that they will have to live side by side because I have tried a few times and they just go hell for leather for each other and it is so scary. I think a lot of it has to do with Barley having had a really bad experience with another rabbit, who bit him nose so badly that he had to have extensive stitches and was on ABX for ages. It has probably left him very wary of strange buns and Sasha is VERY territorial, so it is a bad combination. I would hate for him to be bullied by her and unhappy. Both of them seem to be perfectly content so for the moment I am just leaving them alone.
