Poor Mojo... Empty Poor Mojo...

Post by FluffSlave Tue Oct 29, 2013 5:12 pm

He's really not a happy boy being back indoors. He's completely back to how he was - quiet and withdrawn Sad

It's so frustrating to me because he really blossomed whilst living outside and was even hopping over and letting me give him noserubs.

I understand he has to stay indoors because Wills can't be an outdoor bunny, so do any of you have any ideas of what I can do for him to make him feel a bit happier? He already has lots of hidey/dark places and a "base" which I think he appreciates.

I feel so mean, and to top it all off Willow jumped on his head this morning in a bid to be the first to the freshly topped up pellet dish No Laughing

it depends on what you are prepared to do, as willow needs to be a house bunny. Are you sure mojo doesnt need to be an outdoor bunny? as some do.

Poor Mojo... Empty Re: Poor Mojo...

Post by FluffSlave Tue Oct 29, 2013 9:14 pm

He quite possibly does, but I'm not willing to break the bond and keep him outside on his own. Whilst I think Willow would be quite happy as a single house bun, I don't have the financial means to take on another bunny to be a friend for him, therefore I can't really provide him with an outdoor home. I adore that little bun to bits but he is so troubled back in the house Sad

It's an awful thought and it kills me to even think it, but I've found myself wondering whether I should ring up the RSPCA branch we got him from and explain that he really needs an outdoor home. He's dreadfully stressed at the moment and I am starting to worry his health is suffering as a result, his poops are so bad. I could then get a bunny more suited to indoor life to live with Willow, and Mojo could find an outdoor home. Is this cruel? They've been having tiffs quite a bit lately and I'm wondering if this is Mojo's stress...

It wasn't so bad when they had the room to themselves, but now the chinchillas are in there clattering around I think it's way too much.

What do you guys think I should do? Crying or Very sad

If it were me, I'd make them a nice tranquil indoor room by removing the Chins. Maybe if they could have tunnel or cat flap access to outside so they can choose in or out during the day?

That's a great idea Father Jack, however it's not do-able.

The reason the chins and buns share a room is because there's only one room available for any animals, and chinchillas can't live outside.

The chins were in what was the spare room and is now my sister's room. I don't think they're the sole problem either, I think they just make it worse.

I wondered that too, Katie. But it's been several weeks now and instead of seeing improvement, it's almost deterioration I'm seeing Sad

I just want to do what's best for him. He's going to be in this room for at least another 3 or 4 years, and I just feel so awful watching him sitting in the corner and having to deal with him running away and thumping any time I go near him. He was so happy outside, I just want him to be happy again - even if that means putting my feelings aside.

I'm just so torn Crying or Very sad

I've spoken to the lady from the RSPCA and I'm sorry to say this but I think they are going to find Mojo a new outdoor home. We'll be looking for a friend for Willow again then. She said they gave a hermaphrodite? Any experience of bonding with them? Not sure whether I want to try it, I just want Willow to have company ASAP after they've taken Mojo, I feel awful for seperating them but even more awful knowing how happy Mojo is outside, and keeping him here to save my own feelings Sad I'd really appreciate some vibes please guys. It's an awful situation to ever have to be in and I just hope you can all understand I'm not giving up on him, just putting him first.

Oh hunni,

I am absolutely gutted to hear this, you must be in pieces.
Have you thought of seeing popping him in the buns needing a home section too? Im just thinking (and I know its a massive long shot) that if a hopper took him then at least you would know that he was happy and you could get updates on him?

Such a sad situation. Im saying a prayer for him that he ends up in a home as wonderful as yours.

Is it not possible to let the buns be outside during the day but indoors over night?

Not really through the winter. It's the extremes in weather that the vet wants to avoid putting Willow through, and I agree.

I am heartbroken. I feel so awful for doing this but I know it's what he needs, I guess I just didn't want to face up to it Sad

It would be great if he went to another hopper. I'd have to speak to the RSPCA lady though because I'm pretty sure that there's a policy that if I need to rehome him, he has to go back there. The only thing I will say is the lady from my branch is a huge bunny lover, big into rabbit welfare and I know she'd never let him go if she wasn't satisfied at the home check, so that's something.

I went in there last night and they were cuddled up together. I can't believe I have to separate them Crying or Very sad Is it best to get another bun in before we take Mojo away, so that Willow at least has another bun around after Mojo's gone? Sad Sad Sad

I am so sorry Hun, It is awfully sad and I am very sad for you too. I love those buns.

I do not think it is a bad decision at all and it is obviously not an easy one or a light one to have made. I know you have thought of everything and you are being fare to him not matter how heartbreaking it is, sometimes we just have to let go no matter how hard it is, I think you are wonderful and brave as I do not know what i would do if it was Dougal. You are great because you are putting his needs and Willows needs first. I know how difficult it is when you just do not have the room and financial situations too. That is the reason why Dougal is a single bun, feel bad about it but at the end of the day we cannot afford another and he gets a lot of attention and love and is happy. If he ever got down like Mojo then I would get him a wifey.

I do hope that the RSPCA let you try get him a home with a hopper, like Sparky said, you can have updates and stuff then and know he has gone to a good home. I think though that the RSPCA lady you mentioned would not allow him to just go to anyone as you say so do not worry too much about it.

I really do not know what to say hun, I just feel gutted for you and it must be so hard.

Let us know how you get on and hope it all works out.

I do not know about getting a bun in before hand as it will probably upset him further before he goes since he has to stay in until he goes.  I am not experience in more than 1 bun so other Hoppers will help you out there with advice but I myself do not think that is a good idea, I may be wrong though.

Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs  for you and any good luck vibes.

I am utterly heartbroken :(but Mojo's life is pretty much sit in one spot, move to eat, go back to that spot at the moment. He's clearly unhappy and he literally transformed when outside - he was bouncy, active and much more tame. It's what he needs, at the end of the day, and that comes first.

If I did get any buns in advance they wouldn't be in the same room until Mo had gone.

His photo and description has just been emailed off so he can be advertised Sad Sad

Hey guys - I have some excellent news Very Happy I went in to sort the buns tonight and Mojo was a lot perkier, he was hopping and sniffing and generally being inquisitive and a bit like his old self. I've text the RSPCA lady and said I definitely want to hold on and see if it lasts! My little man could well be staying! Fingers crossed Hugs
