Cranberries

Post by gentl on Wed Jan 08, 2014 5:55 pm

Rory helped himself to my cranberry juice this morning. His facial expressions were priceless. First the sweet taste then the tart.  ROFL After the initial 'Oh, how adorable!' thought I panicked since I was not sure that bunnies could eat cranberries. It is on some lists as a 'yes' and then others that say 'not tolerated'.

So, I ask you Hoppers: Do you give your bunnies cranberries in any form? How do they tolerate it?

Bearing in mind they aren't really a big food in this country our buns don't really get exposed to cranberries. I would say they are not ideal, as with all fruit, due to sugar content.

Lucky bunnies! Smile

Cranberries are extremely tart and bitter in their natural state. Here cranberries are most often served as a jellied 'sauce' with turkey or in baked goods. And of course as juice...usually blended with a sweet juice or tons of sugar because of it's uber tartness. Do people use the word uber any more?  ROFL

We, very occasionally, get one teeny little dried cranberry - one of the ones which has been dried with no added sugar. Jack goes loopy for them Very Happy and they're not nearly as tart as fresh ones.
