Are teat ums good for rabbits?
So Dougal has been through his first full malt this winter and just got the bottom bits of fur to come out, he is almost dark grey again and have brushed him every day for the past month he has been malting but noticed he had some stringy poops, nothing drastic or tons but was worried in case he got bunged up or anything as he wont let me brush his chest, anywhere else he is fine and he plucks at it and noticed loose fur in his castle and around upstairs so I bought him these. he has had 1 so far but wanted to know if anybody else has used them and if they are okay for him please? he will not touch pineapple, he does not like it or the pineapple juice either so thought these would be best just to help prevent any build up.

Re: Are teat ums good for rabbits?
I spotted these a while ago. They do contain dried milk which is why I gave them a miss.
If Dougal is letting you brush him then I would carry on with that as much as possible when he is moulting. As long as he is eating plenty of hay and drinks enough then any ingested hay will come out as 'stringy poos'. I am not too alarmed when I see stringy poos in the litter trays.

Re: Are teat ums good for rabbits?
Thanks very much Huni
Much appreciate the advice, he has only had 1 and wanted to check before bothering with any more in future, he is not struggling and poops are looking better now his malt has almost complete, they where smaller over the winter so was worried and a few stringy ones but he seems fine, poops back to norm and he eats plenty of hay and herbs and always drinks plenty so I will give them a miss from now on and throw them.
Thanks again

Re: Are teat ums good for rabbits?
I don't like the look of at least eight of those ingredients for buns.
If you are seeing stringy poop, don't worry too much - at least it is coming out. All the time he is eating loads of hay I'd not be too concerned. I'm not convinced a bun can get a blockage from fur intake alone, I am sure there is always another reason the bun stops eating / drinking enough, the gut slows down and gets dehydrated and then it can be a problem. But there's always another, underlying cause.

Re: Are teat ums good for rabbits?
As far as to brushing his chest-I forgot who gave the tip but if you dampen your hand and run it across the area like you are petting them the loose hair will cling to your hand. Then rub your hands together over a trash can and the hair will just rub off. It works really well. Rory loves brushing except when near his eyes so this is what I do. I'm afraid to use the brush near his eyes anyway.
Good luck!

Pineapple juice (from concentrate, not the cheap water with a pineapple wafted over it) is good to aid digestion and passing of poops

I do this with Willow as she's not a fan of being brushed

Thinng is Dougal just love sbeing brushed but will not let you touch his chest at all, he trusts me wirth so much and is so clingy with me but try tocuh his chest or brush it he will not have it.
I can try the damp hand trick next time, thanks Holly, I do not think he will let me though.
I have proper pineapple juice as I drink it too but he does not like the fruit or the fruit juice, he drank a bit once but truned his nose up other times.
Just to let you all know his malt is more or less over with and he only has the odd poop with fur in it.
Thanks guys.
