Poorly MJ :( Empty Poorly MJ :(

Post by iiisecondcreep Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:48 am

Just went to give the buns their breakfast and MJ was sitting on the carrier, he didn't budge which is very unusual. Even when i gave T her breakfast he never moved. Went to give him his breakfast and he completely ignored it, also tried some fresh herbs which he loves and he turned his head away Sad
I let them out and he did come out but just immediately went and sat in the corner which is not like him, he's usually very active.

Vets open at 8.30 so will be down there first thing Sad

Edit: he is eating fresh coriander now (although not quite with his usual gusto) but still refusing pellets.

He seems to be almost back to normal now, he is a lot brighter, hes eaten a handful of coriander, a fiba first and a little bit of hay. Still only eating a couple of pellets at a time though.

Edit: just to confirm we are still taking him to the vet!

Good luck with him, it may just be an off day, Dougal had me worried sick a few weeks back as he was quiet and off pellets, just ate a couple, not himself and turned out to be nothing so hopefully it is just that. I am glad he is going the bets too just in case. It may be because he is malting.

Sending mega vibes.

teeth are fine, vet gave him painkillers and a gut stimulant and I've been given meloxidyl, baytril, ranitidine and critical care away.

unfortunately I have to go to work so the vet has suggested splitting their pen so I can be sure that MJ is eating and poo'ing. Hopefully they won't be too upset at being separated, although they'll still be right next to each other :/

Vibes that MJ is back to normal very soon.

BJ and Spring did this before Christmas too with no obvious cause. But I have not been giving them Tesco's spring greens since as they have often been cited as the cause of bunny tummy issues.

Lots of healing and positive vibes are on their way love. I have had bunnies have off days and it worries us to death. Once we called out the emergency vet and he perked up instantly, felt rather silly but pleased that it was nothing serious.

Just home, he has eaten some coriander and some pellets, maybe a barley ring and drank a little water. I gave him some more coriander and he ate some of it and left the rest. He has done about 10 poo's which are about half the size of normal. I can't tell if he has eaten any hay although it does look undisturbed (he usually digs at it). I've given him a bit of wet kale, but he would only take one but. He still seems interested in food, getting excited when he hears a bad rustle and having a good sniff but then he just doesn't eat it Sad

What dose of pain relief is he on and how often? Is it metacam / loxicom?

Just thinking of our Reggie who had the tiniest dental spurs which could not be seen conscious, but would not eat. We kept her going on pain relief and gut meds for about a fortnight while she had bloods etc done. The third vet to look in her mouth finally saw what she suspected was a tiny sore on her tongue, which led up to the dental which sorted her out...

I hope he eats hay soon hun, I think Sparky is right, it could be that and have been missed.

Have you got some of the pro c and fibreplex too? just to help try boost him? I used a bit of fibreplex a couple of times with Dougal when he was off a bit when he was neutered, he loved fibreplex, one thing he would have, he will not touch pro c though. I do not know if it will help or whether I have just been useless but just a thought.

I'm not sure which one is the pain relief, he's on:
Baytril 0.5ml twice daily
Ranitidine 0.7ml twice daily
Meloxidyl 0.6ml once daily

The vet has said that it could still be his teeth, but that he would need to be anesthetized to see the ones at the very back so to try all this first and if that doesn't work then then they'll take him in :/

I don't have fibreplex or pro c, I see I can get pro c in PaH but not sure where I could get fibreplex (I can order it online but that could take a few days).

I saw him eating a few strands of hay a bit ago, he also had a couple of banana chips and he's had some more coriander.

Don't know what to suggest really,
Ranitidine is for the stomach but surely if you want to improve gut motility you would use metocloperamide.
Sorry, all I can do is send more vibes and nose rubs..................

So since my last post MJ seems to have have improved quite considerably and is eating much more and more enthusiastically, hes had pellets, hay, fibafirst stick, coriander, parsley and a bit of kale Smile

Maybe he has realised its drugs time soon! He'll still be getting them but I am glad he seems to be feeling better. Not sure if I should separate them again tonight so I can make sure he's pooing ok in the morning, any suggestions? Guessing I probably should then if he poos ok overnight let them be together tomorrow?

(nb- they are free ranging while we are in so together, its just when in the pen overnight I'd put the spare panel between them)

I can't understand why your vet has to have the rabbit anesthetized to check the back teeth, our vet doesn't do that. Is MJ difficult to check his back teeth?

Topping up the vibes for him xxxx

Thanks, I am not sure about the very back teeth. He checked in his mouth with this little device and said that all the teeth he could see were fine but that it could possibly be teeth at the very back that he would need to inflate his cheeks to see properly.

he did a big flop a short while ago, normally he flops loads but hasn't (that I've seen) so far today so thats good.

ETA: he just wolfed down his dinner Smile
