RIP Squirrel Empty RIP Squirrel

Post by iiisecondcreep Fri May 16, 2014 7:58 am

Driving into work this morning I saw a squirrel on the road, I ignored it as it looked like it was about to run off but it never moved as I drove past, at first I assumed it was dead but it didn't look dead. There were no other cars about so I reversed all the way back, sure enough it was alive but must have been hit by a car and couldn't really move. I picked it up (I really hope I didn't hurt it Sad), put it in the footwell of my car and called the SSPCA. It put its little head on my ski glove that was on the floor, arched its back and gasped a few times and by the time I reached work it had passed away :'(

I called the SSPCA back and told them and they said just to double bag it and bin it, I wrapped it in some cloths I had in the car and a old high vis vest and put it in a bag. I couldn't bring myself to put it in the bin but I work right next to a park so I took it to the park and put its little body in amongst an overgrown area. I suppose the foxes and crows will get it but that seems better than being binned.

RIP little squirrel, I hope you were not in too much pain :'(

Is it ok to say binky free? I have of course observed them in the past and know they do antics too. Thanks for being gentle with the creature. Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs

Oh, how sad Sad

Thank you for helping to let him pass in a quiet and comfortable area, and for giving him some dignity after he had passed Hugs

What a lovely thing to do. I'm sorry you couldn't help it more, but you did what you could and that counts for a lot. I much prefer the idea of him returning to nature too, rather than going in a bin. Thankyou  Hugs Hugs Hugs
