Barney the rescue rabbit at our vet!
This is another sad story
When we went to the vet yesterday to get Bubbles checked the nurse greeted me with the question"do you want another rabbit?"
What happened.
A woman found a box with four rabbits outside Cirencester whilst walking her dog.
One rabbit had stayed in the box the others were close by.
She panicked a bit and took the dog back to her car and went back to the box. Three bunnies had removed themselves from the scene but the one was still sitting in the box. So she scooped it up and brought it to our vet. She later phoned being concerned for the welfare of the other three and even went back to the spot where she found them in the first line but there was no sign o f them.
We had to tell her that there was nothing else she or anyone could do as this area is one country road surrounded by fields. The destiny of those bunnies is.....
The one rescued is called Barney. They had to shave him as he was completely matted and looks a terrible state. Very malnutrioned just skin and bones. They kept him in and put food and water down and he started eating hay and pellets straight away.
I gave them contact details for all the rescues in the area including whindwhisstle warren and cottontails and just hope we find a place for him. I offered to transport him as a volunteer to any rescue that will accept him.
If it wouldn't had been a buck I would have taken him in as a foster.
I will call them tomorrow and see how he gets on.
Just so sad, four bunnies just dumped on the roadside and left
But a thank you to the woman who was human and took pitty!

Re: Barney the rescue rabbit at our vet!
Oh God how awful, I'd have had to go back and search for the other three Bless them.
People make me so angry as there is no way they have to dump rabbits like that there are always other options but it just goes to show how much they cared
for them if they can so easily dispose of them
Hope the three buns will be found eventually before it's to late and Barney finds a loving and caring home we would take him but at the moment we have stopped
taking in anymore bunnies as we just can't afford it at the moment what with our car breaking down and we need to get another and big vet bills.
A big Thank You to the lady who cared enough to help and not walk away...big respect!

Re: Barney the rescue rabbit at our vet!
Oh, how sad
I cannot stand when people dump animals of any description in such stupid places. Why - if you are going to be sick enough to just dump them anyway - can you not leave them somewhere they'll be found e.g. outside a vets, rescue etc. It really winds me up
I am sending loads of vibes for little Barney. I do hope he makes a recovery
And hopefully - by some miracle - the others are found too

No more to say!
I have spoken to Carla the nurse at the vet, she lives I a flat above the surgery and is making sure Barney is looked after over the weekend.he is tucking into his food. About two years old and quite friendly.
Someone had donated a hutch and a small run for him, better then nothing for the time being!
We are still trying to find a rescue place for him but Carla is considering to take him with the hutch to her grand parents and set it up in the garden as a foster home. Small steps massive improvements for a bunny.
I will pop into the surgery tomorrow and donate a spare tunnel and some toys for him.

This is sick and disgusting, I really hate some people. I will worry now about the ones who escaped but you are right love, what a wonderful lady. We need people like this to balance out the wickedness of people like those who abandon bunnies!!

Re: Barney the rescue rabbit at our vet!
Update 23.06.14
Had a phone call from Carla this morning!
Barneynhas been acc.epte.d by Blue Cross Burford and will go there tomorrow.
Yes I have been thinking about the others too. The white way is a country road of about ten miles length and I don't know where this caring lady found them. I know it is one white one, one lop, and another looking similar to Barney.
Just so,sad why and how can people do,this?!
