found photos of Flopsy having a dental

Post by BellaPickleFlopsyLily on Tue Aug 12, 2014 11:40 pm

So early this morning whilst I was getting ready for bed - my brother came down to tell me that he had found Flopsy on the internet! I did not believe him at first but when I saw Shocked It is Flopsy for sure! Yes of course we do not have no definite answer whether it is actually him but I can recognize all of Flopsy's features and it would be a coincidence not to be him. Flopsy had a dental two weeks ago so I am assuming this was taken then (who knows as there is not a date of when this was published!?) I am surprised I was never told that Flopsy was going to be published online? I don't have a problem with it but it was a surprise seeing him like that. Anyway the online interview/article is a interesting.

Here it is - Behind the scenes at Anton Vets]Anton vets (behind the scenes)

This is what it says about Flopsy Shocked - With only time to scrub in for the next procedure, John is ready again for another tooth filing on a rabbit, much the same as before but this time the rabbit takes a long time to anaesthetise due to it holding it's breath. This is by far the longest part of any surgical procedure.

In other news, unfortunately Flopsy has deteriorated. We are now at the stage where nothing more can be done, we will soon have to let him go Crying or Very sad His appetite was decreasing gradually before his dental and hasn't improved despite having his spurs burred. He has also lost 100g and although he has remained the same weight for a week now, he is not putting back what he lost. He is starting to show signs of struggle and tiredness, which is no surprise with all of his problems. The dental two weeks ago was the last option we had; to stabilize him and to manage his pain. He had his meds increased and another drug added prior to that but it seems his body is failing him. The prospect of having to say goodbye to him makes me very sad, I think he only has a week or two at the most before we will have to let him go. He is only eating critical care or rolled oats and mashed pellets mixed with critical care. He will eat dandelions and still remains enthusiastic about medication time but other than those times - he looks so tired and a little sad Sad

The other day I took Flopsy on an adventure outside - here are some photos from our little trip Love

If that was my rabbit and I had seen those photos I would have been devastated, I'm so sorry Jack that you have had to
see Flopsy ( and it does look like him) like that especially with how poorly he is at the moment.
I was quite shocked and in tears when I saw this and so you must have been upset.  Sad  Hugs Hugs

The vet should ask for permission if photos were taken and especially if later posted on the net. I guess you could ask for a statement and apology. Not on! No
If it would be a human they would be in deep trouble by breaching confidentiality.

Thanks Maysie. I'm sorry it upset you so much, bless you Hugs

It didn't upset me as such, just made me feel a little strange after. In a way I am glad I have these photos to keep and to remember how strong Flopsy has been and all that he's been through. I would of liked to of known so I could of checked! If it wasn't for my bother finding it then I probably would of never known!

I believe they don't have to ask permission, they often take photos for educational purposes.I think what they do is try and make it so the animal is not indentifiable by blurring the photo slightly. Although I can tell that's definitely Flopsy - there's no question about that. But if you look at the second photo - I think they've tried to hide Flopsy's white spot on his nose by shining a light onto it.

They should of asked permission to publish is online really. Although I wouldn't of minded. It would be great if it could help out other rabbits by making people more aware of dental problems etc. As I said in my reply to Maysie - I'm glad I have these photos now and will cherish them. I'm really grateful for my vet's amazing work and care during Flopsy's illnesses - he's been fantastic. If he wasn't for him then Flopsy wouldn't be here now. I have got a lot to thank him for.

No doubt they are brilliant and do all they can and care for the pets. I wouldnt query their skills or intend. It just would be nice to be asked or informed that they gonna publish photos or other details to the public. If it would be me I would approach them in friendly manners and let them know how I feel. Some one else might not be as generous as you and could cause trouble. Sending vibes and hugs to you both.

I think that two of the Buns being mentioned in the article are C&A (and one of the pictures may be Charlie) and I am nothing but proud as punch that my Buns can be used to educate.

At a time when so many vets are rubbish when it comes to rabbit care - its brilliant that there is some info out there that points people to the excellent care that is available for their buns.

Secondly many people are still of the attitude that when a bunny is ill there is nothing you can do for it.  This article demonstrates that bunnies can be treated and go on to live brilliant lives.

I dont beleive that my buns will mind at all, they are not celebrities with personal lives to protect, and dont really care if their picture is out there.  No names or addresses are given and I have no issues at all with it, the positive messages of the article are fabulous and should really be the focus I think.

Im also not in the slightest bit upset by the pictures (although I understand that seeing a bun knocked out isnt nice).  I know that my rabbit is in for a procedure and I dont think that this involves them sitting in a cloverpatch munching on dandilions.

The truth is none of my buns would still be alive if it wasnt for this practice.  The pioneering treatment they receive there is what is keeping them alive, and I am grateful every day for it.

The care animals receive at this practice is second to none - and I beleive one of the best in the country, and I feel privaleged that I have someone to care for my buns of Johns calibre.  The whole practice is amazing (as is the point of this article).

Im so sorry to hear that flopsy is deteriorating Jack, you must be heartbroken, I hope that you get lots of extra time with him - he is a very special guy.   If there is anything I can do - please let me know.   Sending you both a hug.

I am so sorry to hear this news love, he is a beautiful bunny. I agree, those pictures should not have been posted without your permission.

I agree with you Katie, I would see it as an honour if Dougal could help educate people and if the pics would have been of him, you should be proud. It is not like they are posting a child up or anything.

I am so sorry and sad for you Jack, many hugs and sympathies to you. I know how devastated you feel.
