Wondering...

Post by FluffSlave on Sun Jan 04, 2015 4:49 pm

I'm currently trying to think of winter alternatives for the bunnies floor time whilst the chins come out. Obviously, whilst the chins are having their daily free run out of the cage the buns have to come out of the room. In the Spring/Summer this isn't a problem as they happily mooch around in the garden (which I can see directly from the room I am in) for the evening and it stays light out.

However, obviously - being indoor buns - this doesn't work in the Autumn/Winter months...

I had been putting them out in the hallway just outside the room for some floor time but it's just not working. The house can get quite busy and Mo gets terrified when people come in and out of the front door and make lots of noise above him. I think it is just too 'exposed' for him and he feels really vulnerable.

So tonight I am trying them in my room as there are lots of people coming over. I've put lots of hideys out for them and with a door to shut on it all and it being much more quiet I think Mo will be lots happier. It would be great if I could leave the buns in here every night of an evening as they'd always have a safe place to play, the chins would get longer playtimes and I wouldn't be confined to sitting in the room/staying in.

My only worry is that Wills will go back to jumping on the bed and peeing on it like she did when she lived in here. Do you guys think if I block it with quite a high, solid barrier (about 4.5ft) she wouldn't jump it if she couldn't see what was on the other side?

I guess I'll have to give it a go and see, but what do you all think?

Apologies in advance for the essay guys!! Laughing

I think it is worth a try love, she may decide to go for it but if she doesn't it will be really good. Please keep us informed.

Can you put something over your bed just in case, an old sheet or some people use an shower curtain but that may be short notice for you if it's tonight. scratch

I was in here tonight so she didn't try it. She knows not to, she just like to seize the opportunity when no one's around Laughing

I think I will cover it with something just in case. It's been quite a while since she's lived in here though and all of the furniture is hidden so I think if I keep the bed hidden she might be a bit tentative about jumping the barrier, not knowing what's behind it and all...

They can be very sneaky, if Holly is doing something naughty and one of us walks in, she will do a little binky and hop off. I say "We" she takes no notice of me at all but when daddy says no, she listens Laughing

Really well thanks Katie.

I have pretty much 100% chin proofed my room and so the chinnies free range out of their cage (they can still access it all night long) for 5+ hours. This solves the problem of them going bananas and keeping me up at night - they're too pooped to move Laughing

The buns are also really enjoying their new space. I am thinking of giving it a revamp - maybe a new paint job and possibly treating them to a new piece of furniture or two from Manor Pet Housing. Will be sure to post pics Thumbs Up
