? Snuffles what to do?Update11.2.15

Hi Hoppers,
I had found Bertie recently having a fit af sneezing and expectorating a blob of "snot" on some occasions.
I had alerted our vet to this when he had his last dental. 
His nose looks fine, no discharge or swelling or inflammation to be seen
I did a grooming session last night and found both front paws sticky.
Also his eyes look a little red and there is hart grind on the left one.
Of course I will phone the vet but our rabbit savvy vet is usually in on a Monday. Do you think I can wait until then or is this an emergency that needs to be dealt with in the morning straight away?
Also it is most likely that Bubbles would be infected ( I read our article on Snuffles and also researched in some of the books I got) sounds quite tricky.
He seems fine in him self. Eating, pooing and interacting as usual.
What do you suggest?

It could be something simple like dust irritation, maybe dusty hay? If his eye looks sore you could gently bathe it in warm salty water to prevent any infection

If everything else is as normal I would just keep a close eye on him and see how it goes over the weekend.

It sounds like snuffles to me Hun, but keep an eye on him and I expect Monday will be fine if it's the difference between seeing a rabbit savvy vet or not. Sending vibes for him. Xx

Bunny boy funny tou say that you think of bubbles. 
She is humping him a lot. And I guess he is not feeling up for any of it.
He looks a little sorry for himself.
He had his dental treatment in late autumn and that is coincidently the same time when I realised the sneezing and weight loss but thought it would be his teeth. Reading up on it dental issues can cause snuffles. Don't know how but trust RWAF when claiming this.
I tRy to barrier nurse them to some extend, sorting Vernon and D.Layla out first, but unsure whether the bacterium will be carried on my slippers or socks. I certainly wash all feeding bowls and water bottles thouroughly and my hands after dealing with Bertie.
Also put my thinking cup own on how to provide a nebuliser unit. I got a mashine and a decent sized plastic box that is usually used for storage. If I put a whole in there and the tubing from the neb unit I might be able to build something for him. The perspective of long term Baytrill is daunting as he hates it. Hates it I said and mean it.
He is getting lots of cuddles from me of course. He is my Mr. handsome.

Your going to do what!!!! & put it where!!!! I have no idea what you just said : & if I said something that helped, it was purely by accident, cause I don't know a darn think about bunny health, I thought maybe Bertie got a cold & hoped Bubbles wouldn't get it. Anyway how is he, uh them!!!

Right if it is snuffles, which I strongly beli e now as Bubbles has a bit of  a wet nose too it can be beneficial to use a nebuliser to treat them. I would use colloidal silver in it, which is exactly what I do when I get a cold. I don't think a bunny would stay still enough on the nebuliser and the face mask wouldn't fit. So if I find a suitable container that I could connect to the unit I could put him in there for the treatment. 
The box would have some small holes in it to allow ventilation
I might just attach photos to show what I mean.
Have to do this tonight as loft to work now.

If it is snuffles Baytril is next to useless - hopefully your rabbit savvy vet will know this and try something else. We have Alamycin, a farm drug, by injection every 3 days.

Our nebuliser is just a wire-fronted carrier, with a cable tie on the front onto which the nebuliser pot can be arranged. Bun in carrier, towel over top and front, 30 mins morning and evening.

It is, supposedly, contagious but we have many pairs where one bun suffers and the other shows not a single sign. It almost always seems to be triggered by another strain on the immune system, even if this is just a moult or change in weather - autumn and spring are classic times for flare-ups.

Nebulising is key - we use F10 solution at a ratio of 250 : 1 and a little pinch of Bisolvon in the pot. It really gets that horrible thick snot shifting. And the abx need to be given for at least 2 weeks after all symptoms are gone. The weepy eye is a classic symptom of snuffles - the bun often cleans their nose (hence the sticky paws) and removes visible signs of the infection but they find it less easy to do with the eyes.

He was a little more subdue before I left to work this afternoon. Substantial amounts of snot on his nose tangled in with hay that I have given for breakfast. His bum was a little dirty too. I wondered whether a dose of metacam would be good. Is this painful for bunnies? 
After researching the topic I think it is similar to MRSA in hoomins. Carried for length of time without causing symptoms but will kick in when imuunsystem compromised and than a pain in..... To be treated.
I have written all the drug names down and will call the vet first thing in the morning. Can I get F 10 and Bisolvon over the net where do you get yours from? 
I do feel sorry for my boy. He is such a gentle heart and I treated him with a zapper( electronic device to kill bacteria, viruses, and mould/fungi. He was curling himself in my lap and after 30 minutes when treatment had finished just didn't want to get off me. Bless him! 
This may sound silly but I love them all, just that Bertie was the first one to be rescued and such a lovely character that I feel connected to him in a special way. Do with Vernon too because of no front teeth. A nonsense I just love them all. But he is my Mr. handsome.

Update 9.2
Been to the vet and the examination revealed. Dental Spurs! Both bunnies have dental issues.
They have 24/7 access to different types of hay and are eating fair amounts. Wooden chew toys, apple branches,dandilion rootes and what else and still growing spurs. Both on the right side.
Bubbles are so sharp that they have cut into her gum leaving scabs that can't heal because the spurs rip it open again.:pale:poor girl this must hurt emensly.
Bertie has a cap with food stuck in it just next to his spur.
Hence they are both booked for surgery. I wanted it to be on Thursday as I got a day off, but they have. A newly qualified vet in and bob felt it wouldn't be the best idea to ask her to do this, not that I would have felt happy either. So they are going in on Wednesday and Patrick will be there surgeon. 
I will cover them with metacam until then. Bob suggested to wait on any treatment with ? Snuffles until the rentals have been sorted out.

Sorry  I was on page 2, then saw page 3 & your update, your poor bunnys, I had no idea bunnys have so much trouble with their teeth, maybe I should get Bunny  checked  lots of love & vibes for all of you

Bunny boy, honestly I haven't got a Clue why they develop spurs. 
We wre discussing it and the vet said that in most cases it is down to environment or food, but.....
There is a genetic factor too. Especially with the lops as their faces are flat.
I have just been upstairs to check on them. They eat, they groom, they play all well,so,far. I have given them pain relief and I will continue to do so. Trouble is that with being a pray animal they dont display any pain as it would be an disadvantage to show weakness of any kind in the wild. The best thing is to know your bunny and follow your gut instinct.
Even if not I'll you should get your bunny checked. Once ( when getting vaccinated) or twice a year. Unless you have mine which means you see the vet frequently. Vernon is sweet but accident prone. When we came in today Bob asked what has he done this time. I answered. He has fallen in love. His response . Oh it's nice if I don't have to do anything to him and gave him a big smile and a cuddle:D
