You know how sometimes you don't

Post by woodwench on Sat Feb 21, 2015 8:00 pm

... quite manage to shut the fridge door properly? I think I hadn't slotted the salad box in quite right and so the door hadn't closed.
Guess who discovered it?
Got it in one!
I had been on the phone chatting to a friend for almost an hour. It was getting on for 4pm, Toast-time, so I said my 'Goodbyes' and shifted my butt into gear.
I might have missed the door left ajar but there was no way anyone could miss it now ... wide open and dripping pineapple juice!
I'm guessing the scent of celery (or kale or cabbage) had drawn him in to check out the fridge but there's no doubt it was the sweet taste of pineapple juice on the carton that had diverted his attention and led him into trouble.
The cap bore evidence of tooth tampering but it was the gaping hole halfway down the edge of the carcass of the carton that had finished it. Of course he had nibbled below the level of juice, it was an almost full carton, and the inevitable had happened. My (almost) new rug was soaked and sticky and the fridge shelf awash ... and HIS muzzle bore the gooey of proof of guilt.
And I thought he was going to be a good rabbit!

And another award for the nortiest bunny this month is a credited to Henry!
Yes this action deserves to be recognised. First to find the fridge. Then to distinguish between usefull and useless, to establisch the desirable.
Pineapple juice, nice cold and sweet and so healthy lots of enzymes!Very Happy:thumb:NoNoNo
I give him credit! Sorry mum for the mess and the time to clean it up. Hugs to you:hugs:

Judy: Henry is a medium to large(ish) bun weighing 3.5.
That photo is one that was on his rescue profile and was taken in Aug. last year. You will notice the dark area like a saddle on his back? When he first came to the rescue that entire area was bald. His previous owners, for reasons unknown, had shaved him. When I first saw him he had stubble growing back. When I got him in Nov. that dark grey was a lovely silvery-pearly grey.
I find it hard to believe he was ever ill treated ... maybe teased with food to account for his piranha ways ... but he is far to bold, confident and human trusting to have been cruelly ill treated. After the pineapple juice incident I'm inclined to think he maybe had a similar encounter that forced his owners to take the drastic action of shaving him.
He certainly has a great curiosity and loves life.

I would love to meet him, he sounds so special. Paul had to put a lock on his fridge door because one of his doggies used to open it and help herself.

Yes, shaved!
After the pineapple juice incident I can kinda see what might have caused them to shave him.... Henry covered in porridge perhaps? Or golden syrup?
But why they got rid of him ... and he being such a sweetheart ... that I cannot understand.

Henners will never be shaved again ... not unless it's absolutely unavoidable and then done by a vet. He has such a gorgeous coat and being grey it goes through all those glorious colour changes before moulting. Clawed used to have the most beautiful golden flanks pre-moult; Henry's are a few shades lighter but still glorious.
Think I may be in love!

Henry has his carry box as a part of his everyday life. He plays in it and I scatter a few nuggets in to keep it exciting and I move it a couple of times a day to keep his interest. Every time it's moved he goes to check it out and hunt for nuggets. I occasionally shut him in and carry him around for a while before letting him hop out in front of breakfast or his evening meal. He's been to the vets twice now with no catch-up problem and, fingers crossed it will remain so .... but I know what rabbits are like!

Having a few problems at the moment so the claws etc are going to be done this Tuesday. Paul will take them down before I go to slimming world. Holly has a chewy box which she loves, even if she does keep throwing it it on the floor Very Happy

Hopefully Henners won't be going ... noooooooooooooo, better not tempt fate!

He is still munching through hay like it's going out of fashion so his tushers are .... Nooooooooooooo, better not tempt fate!

Yes, he loves his hay. 9 worth coming tomorrow along with 30 worth of herbs and such like including a carrot cottage (his first). I am expecting great things of this carrot cottage.

That is a great idea Woodwench love, that way he doesn't see his box as something awful. Holly is a very good hay eater too.

Yes, Jo, I always used to incorporate their travel boxes in their everyday life. It makes it easy to catch them but faffier at the vets when you have to dismantle and reassemble the front loading box but that's a small price for a easy catch.
I had heaps of trouble catching Loll for his vet trips because he had a top loader box and had to be lifted in. He hated that box and I had to be so sneaky and quiet when bringing it out ready for a trip. If he heard it rattle or caught a glimpse of it he was off, kicking his heels and stamping and going into a mega sulk.
Henners likes his box ... so far.

They read our body language don't they love? They always know when something is up and if it involves them. I had a doggy once who always knew when the bath (this is many years ago) was being filled for her and she would go and hide.

I used to bring Loll's box down days in advance and gradually inch it into sight. He always knew on the morning though ... yes, they read our body language though at times I think they read our minds too.
Back when I had Sollee, my Airspring, I worked at a Volvo dealership in town and he would know the time I was due home and would be at the gate to meet me. My dad, who was retired and always at home, said Sol would start chafing about ten minutes before I was due. So that was easy to put down to the famous body clock thing. It was only when, one day, I came home a couple of hours early, in a works car, that it got spooky. Sollee was waiting at the gate and dad, who had no idea I would be home early (I didn't know myself) said Sollee had begun his routine chafing ten minutes before I arrived. He must have had some telepathic link, I've no other explanation.
