Toilet matters

You know that D' Layla has joined our Warren a few weeks ago. She has generally settled in nicely and bonded with Vernon. However has some excess cetophobes( I most likely spelled this wrong meaning the soft,shine poo bunnies produce and that is full of goodness that's why they eat it)and I pick the up as I go along. I had told the vet about this and we think and hope it is due to the changes in her life at present.Teeth where checked and seemed fine
Today the vet suggested to collect them( not her teeth, the unpronounceable C's), mix them in with the critical care food and to give them to Bertie:shock:
Schrreeeek! I must have looked bewildered 
I might give it a go!
Has any of you got experience in such treatment?

I'd be more inclined to try reducing the number of soft pellets she produces. Maybe reduce the amount of greens (or fruit) she's getting and push the hay.
I can see the idea behind "recycling" those spare C's ... topping up Bertie's lunch! But I'd want to be 101% sure that D'Layla is 100% healthy as it seems like a sure way of passing on numerous germ-type thingies.

Yes, I have heard of it before. It can be useful to feed caecotrophs of a healthy rabbit to one that has a compromised intestine, the theory is that it introduces healthy bacteria. I would not like to say if this would be of benefit to Bertie.

I agree that it may be an idea to find the cause of excess caecotrophs. When we had Barney he was producing a very large amount of caecotrophs. After much faffing around I realised it was the pellets he was on - Excel Junior, and was then the same when I switched to Science Selective. The problem only stopped when I then tried the Oxbow Bunny Basics. The common denominator I decided in the Excel and SS was alfalfa, the Oxbow being Timothy hay based.

Rightly or wrongly I have always been a bit suspicious of giving a large amount of alfalfa based products to my bunnies.

D'Layla may not be affected by the pellets she is eating, it could be something else that is maybe too rich in her diet. I am struggling a wee bit with BJ at the moment, he has a sticky bottom on and off but have not managed to work out what is causing it.

Ive heard of this too, to top up the good bacteria in poorly Bertie. Never seen it in practice though. I agree that you may want to find out the cause of D.Layla's excess caecotrophs first though. Id perhaps ask your vet?

It is probably just stress causing them though, a foster bun I rehomed to a friend had excess cecals for 6 weeks before she settled in, and they stopped. Effie also has them at the moment. The rescue said she didnt have them. Travelling, bonding, new environments, slightly new diet etc...its all stressful for a bun, and can take a while to settle down. I have them on a basic hay and pellet diet while I change the pellets over, and will probably start adding their usual things back in gradually in a week.

Yes Sophia I just got her 4 weeks ago and the amount of c is daily decreasing. She is very bright and active,eats well ,poos look good.
I wondered whether there is a time schedule to ease into new settings.
She has had to cope with masses of change. 
Imagine you have been in the shelter for 9month.
First you meet this handsome Guy and a weird hoomin that talks funny
Than you move house, far away somewhere you havnt been before.
You get plenty of food, nice food but it is different to what you had so far,even the hay isn't the same.
This guy has done his homework and arranged a nice warren but there are many strange noises and folks about(cats).
Sometimes you get stuck into a small box and when you get out you are in a different space again(tardis Dr. Who),
Tell you what I would start to produce all sorts of c. If I would be here.

She sounds a poppet, she will get used it all the noises in time, it is all very new at the moment bless her.

Oh yes Jo I'm sure she will.
Already starting to rearrange the warren to her liking( this flipping Lino needs to go!) and stealing Vernons food(I need to cut his in bite size-now both get small veg pieces, which won't help with teeth!) and anything rubber.
I groomed them last night and was busy with the boy. In each warren is a storage unit made of wicker. Call me mad but at least it is safe to chew.
1draw=medicine and health related stuff
2draw= toys and entertainment
3draw=grooming utensils
So I'm sitting with Vernon on my lap do what we do when I realise out of the corner of my eye, she hopped into the draw and was chewing vehemtly on something. This something was the groom zoom. 
By the time I got to her 4 of the things were missing. And then she run of with it. Me after her, don't ever chase a bunny on a mission.
I eventually retreated the zoom groom but she had the rubber pieces in her mout and would not give them to me.

Don't worry, after about two minutes she got bored of the and spit them out. All four next to me proofing the evidence and looked at me saying: see what I can do? 

I did not know about the poops being god for an unhealthy bunny, I have just learnt something new.

I haven't done it. Something doesn't sit easy, with me on that idea.
Yes I can see the point to say you give the poorly bun all extra nutrition and the healthy gut bacteria but still......
