I don't think it was planned.
Well today being another good day for me (4th in a row!) I took the opportunity to clean my bedrooms.
I came down after a couple of hours to give Henry his greens. I called and called and called..... No Henry. I looked behind the sideboard, my desk ... all the places he likes to hide. No sign, no Henry.
After five minutes I began to panic. He was nowhere to be found.
Had I left the door open and he'd slipped out?
Jeez, was he roaming out in the woods?
He could be miles away.
I was on the verge of tears thinking of him out there in the wilds.
Then I heard a scuffling.
It took a moment or two to discover whence it came then the penny dropped.
On the good days while I've been ill I've managed to do a few little odd jobs, mainly in my sitting room. One of them was to have a good clear out of cupboards and drawers including my desk drawers. Now, I confess to being a bit of an hoarder, not over the top, I am very tidy, but I do find it hard to get rid of things like writing/art materials even if I haven't used them for years. My desk drawers have been home to several sketch pads, writing blocks etc. and I've finally re-homed them with a young couple who are home schooling their son. This has left the two bottom drawers of my desk empty.
Yes, there he was, in the bottom drawer of my desk. He had got in via the gap at the back! Now it was a pretty tight squeeze and the only way to get him out without ripping his head off was to take out the middle drawer.
It took a few minutes as he would keep sticking his head up, which wasn't a good idea, but we managed it without harm ... except to my temper!
This rabbit is INSANE!

He's plain old nosey. He must have had one helluva struggle to get through the gap and over the back of the drawer. But he is nothing if not determined.

He's fully recovered. Once free he was off in pursuit of his greens not at all fussed.
I've now filled the drawers with magazines ... copies of Rabbiting On ... very apt.

Re: I don't think it was planned.
Maybe Henner was an investigator in a previous life, I'm sure Bunny was.
The other day when I came back from the bunny sanctuary, Bunny was going crazy smelling my pant legs while l was sitting on the couch, all of a sudden he stops stretches up as far as he can without touching me & searches the rest of the couch with his eyes, he must have thought l brought friends home, which might possibly lead to sharing his noms

Henry looks gorgeous in his new pic. What a little sweetheart he is! Even if he does get himself in these situations!

Thanks ... that picture is a still from a video I made of his first go at free roaming. In that shot he's taking his first step out of the pen and heading off on his new career as Henners: Master of Situations!

Oh Henners!!
Willow used to do something very similar. In the end I gave up and just let her have the bottom draw as a bed - I even put an old pillow in there for her! There's a picture of it on a thread here somewhere

Re: I don't think it was planned.
Loll had a well developed curiosity but Henry is something else. Nothing goes unnoticed and everything has to be investigated; open a box and he's trying to get his sticky beak in and cupboards are irresistible. It makes him great company because he's always ready to join in (except during afternoon nap time), but it also provides opportunity for potential trouble.
And there's no way he is having my desk drawer as a hidey-bed. I spend a lot of time at my desk and having him scrabbling around at calf height beside me is unthinkable!

Re: I don't think it was planned.
Awww not even for Henner?
Bunny is like that too, anytime we do anything he has to be right there, with his little nose stuck in everything. The only time it bothers me is when I'm trying to vacuum, I have a central vac with a long hose which he is always nosing around with, I'm afraid he'll get hurt,I have to be very careful when I pull it, he could go for a flip pretty easy, I never knew bunnys were so curious, if I go in my bedroom for anything he's right there at the gate trying to get in, even if I sneak in, I swear he has radar, if I had him 45yrs. ago I probably wouldn't have 3 kids lol. Boy I just realized I'm going to be 62, you blink & your there

Good job you found him.
Thats better than the time i lost Marley, and Mum found him chewing her wicker chair at 2am!! Or the time I locked Rocky under the stairs all day!!

Re: I don't think it was planned.
If we are doing anything, Holly has to become a part of it and it always involves chewing whatever we are dealing with at the time, for example if I am reading a book. She is so people friendly and thinks everyone is there for her, which of course we are

Re: I don't think it was planned.
Yes, Judy ... Not even for Henners! My desk is sacred, it's only for me and my imagination. Henry is welcome to sit under it, hide behind it and chase round it, but he's not welcome in the drawers.
Well, Jo, Henry doesn't chew, he's too busy chinning and pushing his way into whatever's next. I think he believes that if he took time out to chew he might miss something! And I've found that the best way to curb his over attentiveness when I'm reading is to read aloud! He happily settles down to listen. Watching TV can be a bit of a struggle sometimes as he can be a slipper tugger if he feels left out.
As for his Hide & Seek skills ... he doesn't know the rules, he didn't wait for me to count to 100.

Re: I don't think it was planned.
Judy: I don't think I will be writing Henry's story any time soon. I don't know much about the first three years of his life and I've only had him four months (on 25th) myself. I'd need to know more background, or to have a longer relationship with him to write more than incident accounts such as I've posted here on HH.
I am currently writing a book about a fox and putting together notes for another book which will be semi-autobiographical.
