RIP gull

Post by iiisecondcreep on Sun May 10, 2015 12:07 pm

Looked out the window this morning to see an adult gull sitting on the ground over the road, appeared to have a badly broken wing. Called the SSPCA, while I was on the phone it got up and started walking and the wing was hanging off Sad SSPCA told me to put it under a box and they'd come and collect it. Getting under a box wasn't too easy, they can run quite fast so we had to chase it a bit. Then it went under a bush so i had to retrieve it, which was easy but very painful - it latched onto my finger and got dragged out when it wouldn't let go. Managed to prize it off my finger (they have a remarkably strong grip) and get it under the box. SSPCA arrived within about 15mins and took it away. I did ask what would happen to it and unfortunately the only option is PTS. Even though the bird was otherwise in good condition they don't take well to captivity and it is very stressful for them.

Anyway, I hope it wasn't in too much pain and distress. RIP gull.

Aww Sad

I've done this before and while it wasn't nice being told they would just PTS, it saved him/her from being hit by a car, attacked by a fox etc etc.

You saved him/her from what would have no doubt been a horrible end otherwise Hugs

Thank you for helping him sweetie, we have a lot of gulls around here but I am about the only one who loves them. I leave little treats for them in our front garden.

Hugs
