Oh hoppers I'm devastated. Can I ask for vibes for this beautiful bunny girl that I adopted recently.
She is at the vet whilst I type this for iv fluids more pain relief and gut stimulant. Her nun bun Vernon is with her.Sad
What happened?
It was a glorious day yesterday and I had planed to tidy the garden and the porch. So bunnies you are coming out too. For fresh air and grass and some sunshine.
They were out all afternoon happy and relaxed whilst I sorted their herb garden out to have more fresh noms.
Came 5 pm it was time to get them back in.
Whilst I was transferring Bertie and Bubbles back upstairs I heard my neighbour shouting on top of her voice.
Dashed downstairs to find my neighbour with three of the five jack Russels all dogs at Vernon and D'Laylas run, lot of fur flying:mad:Hissy
Grappled one of the dogs whilst Hilary got another and whilst she was getting them to the house I got the third one off.
They had still managed to get D'Layla by her ear and it was badly torn and bleeding.Hissy
Straight off to the vet who amputeted parts of the ear last night.
Back home with them two including Baytrill, metacam and critical care I hold night duty with her.
Got my futon out and slept in the warren after giving her some water and syringe feed as she was still quite sleepy. Vernon loved it playing with my blanket all night. She slept next to me for about two hours then moved herself into the hidey hole where she stayed the rest of the night. This was at two in the morning and I thought it is ok, set my alarm for six for the next round of feeding.
When I woke she was still in the hidey and after getting her out she would not take any fluid or food. She just troubled it out of her mouth. No poo or pee to be seen anywhere andI thought her ear looked discoulered and swollen hence phoned the vet again.
They said to bring her back in and now I'm waiting to hear how she takes to the treatment.Crying or Very sad
Not sure how to cope with two poorly bunnies.

Jeez, that's awful. Dog bites are terrible, so many germs in a dogs mouth. Poor wee D'Layla, she will be in shock too.
My best wishes to you and I do so hope she rallies fast.
What on earth was the neighbour playing at allowing three dogs to get at your buns? Didn't she have them on leads? or in a secure garden? I hope you present her with the vet bill (especially if she doesn't offer to pay it) as her dogs were out of control and she is liable, no two ways about that. Five Jack Russells, that's one helluva pack and they are such crazy little beasts (I've owned one and my brother bred them).
Wow... I'd be in ragin' storm if anyone's dog got at my Henry.

Post by c.bolduan Thu Mar 12, 2015 12:23 pm

Good morning all of you,
Sorry for not responding earlier but gosh those buns are keeping me busy and I was up until five this morning and then needed a few hours of:sleep:myself.
After I picked D'Layla up from the vet last night, where she had her treatment of Burphenoprine for pain, more metocloperamide and iv antibiotics,I settled them back in their warren. She went straight into her hidey and I left her there to attend Bertie and his regime.
She continued to be withdrawn all evening and didn't take her critical care very well. She just kept it in her mouth but wouldn't swallow it.
She has still got her iv access in situ so that I could give her top ups over night if needed and I decided to do this at about 3o clock.
At the next feeding round she managed to swallow and seemed a little brighter in herself.vernon is the most caring hunbun(I would marry him) and groomed her whenever he got a chance to do so.
She tried to eat some pellets this morning but again only pooling them in her mouth. I reckon the swelling of the ear is effecting her jaws and swallow and that it is to painful.
Initially the vet prescribed metacam 0.5 once daily which quite frankly I ignore and give 0.7 twice a day. She weights 2.2 kg so this sounds right to me.(yes I told the vet this is what I'm gonna do!)
Just given her 15ml of cc and ten ml of water plus  a small portion Ella's kitchen apple and banana and she managed this fine.
As well she gets all the alternative treatment of rescue, reiki and Solfeggio energy and her wound is cleaned with colloidal silver.
Regards my neighbours dogs. They belong to various girls that live in a cottage opposite to mine. We are on a farming estate and they are running an equestrian business. I had spoken to hilary and she agreed that the bill should be paid by them but they are now staring to argue between each other who's dog it was. Doesn't matter to me and I will keep my self out of this by suggesting to do a claim on their business insurance. The estate and all  is open planed gardens with no fencing around than extending into fields. This was my main concern when considering to set a shed with run up and have them living outdoors as I feel it isn't safe. There is the dogs from the girls, the shepppards, the game keeper and all other wild peters such as foxes and badgers......
No this are indoor bunnies with access to outside when I'm around.
To make it safer I'm currently looking to get an electric fence that will go around the bunnies set up and is likely to deter any of them.
Im not angry at the dogs, they are animlas and they do what they are designed to and keeping them on a lead( which is what our landlord requested but everyone ignores) would be the only other option but is unlikely to happen. Might talk to my landlord too when I see him.
Thanks for all the vibes and well wishes and we wouldn't mind any top ups for the bunnies at Marsden.Hugs

Oh my god Shocked Shocked  why did she have them off the bloody lead if she canot control the little buars, Jack Russells can be a pain in the butt. I love all dogs but they can be newt at times that breed. I bet you where horrified. I do hope they are all going to be okay, mega vibes for Layla and I think you should give her the vet bill as that is disgusting and her fault. I know it is not the dogs fault, but they really need to keep them ona lead as they have the natural insticnts to hunt.

More healing vibes coming your way Hun, is she passing any poo at all?

Have you though of softening the nuggies with some warm water?

Good call on the metacam Hun, you prob have scope to increase it further if you felt it would benefit her. Bless her heart.

Please let us know how she is and call me if you need a friendly ear. It's tough having one poorly bun let alone two xxxx

Like you said she will be finding chewing uncomfortable because of the jaw-ear muscle area. She may take sometime to get used things if the amputation as affected the way her ear channels sounds. Poor little girl, a lovely day with spring sun and that happens.
I think you're being very calm about the whole thing where the dogs owners are concerned. It doesn't matter whose dog owned the teeth that did the damage... all the dogs were involved as a pack and I think the girls should be aware of the Dangerous Dogs Act, it doesn't just apply to the fighting types, it's any dog that is out of control like they obviously were.
I am so sorry for you and D'Layla (and poor dear Vernon who has had his happy world so cruelly upset). Take care and nose rubs all-round.

Now then,
She is happy to take the critical care this afternoon but no solids. I will book with the vet tomorrow for a check, I'm not sure whether anyone had a look in her mouth?
We have used infratronic device on her and she has certainly picked up since then.
