Daisy's abscess Empty Daisy's abscess

Post by KatieB Tue Nov 17, 2015 7:31 pm

Its got worse :-(

We have managed to keep to stable for the last 5 years, but after a few weeks of changed eating behaviour i took him to Johns today who has given him an X-ray and discovered that the infection is worse.

The odd eating started about 4 weeks ago. I thought it was teeth so we had those done and then when it continued (after the normal time a daisy hunger strike takes) I put it down to having his vaccination, and then after it continued (again after the normal hunger strike time period) I had assumed he was upset because of all the fireworks, but no, the poor lad must have been in pain, so as you can imagine i feel terribly guilty.... yet again.

So he now has to have tramadol and he will be re-xrayed again in a couple of weeks. Im gutted. Poor little lad.

Aw Katie, don't feel guilty. Any one of us would have thought the exact same as you. I know I would have.

I'm ignorant when it comes to abscesses, can it improve again?

I think its unlikely. The problem is Daisy can only have Baytril as he is allergic to other Abx (of course!).

You have nothing to feel guilty about, we would have all thought the same. My bunnies have changed eating habits God knows how many times, and I'm sure their not the only ones.

Katie B, please don't beat yourself up. You are neither ignorant nor uncaring in opposite and for not having a bunny cristall ball or other possibilities to figure out what is going on each time they behave oddly.
Daisy B is a very lucky bunboy and he knows it, might not admit it but knows it. Let me send you lots of hugs and fell better vibes for all of you.HugsHugsHugs

Daisy's abscess Empty Re: Daisy's abscess

We all know how changeable rabbits eating habits can be, no need to feel guilty. I took Henry for his check up on Mon. about a month early as I had had this niggly feeling that something was not quite right with his eating habits. He had begun spreading out his meals ... instead of cleaning his nugget bowl in the morning at one or two sessions he's been spreading it out to last all morning. Then I had to start poo checking and obsessing that they are smaller than normal, though just as numerous.
The vet found a fit bun looking top dollar and ticking all the boxes.
Can I settle? Am I convinced he's A1? Well, he fell asleep in his litter tray this afternoon, not at all like Henry.... so now I'm worrying afresh, even though he is now flat out on his side, eyes tight shut and lost to the world.
I've written all that to try and reassure you that you shouldn't feel guilty.... rabbits are such contrary creatures.

Thanks guys - he's not really eaten anything today so I've syringe fed him and given lots and lots of head scratchies.

He had his first dose of Tramadol tonight and he seems quite bright which is good as I was worrying about that too. We will see how he goes tomorrow.

Love this boy!

Dee I hope Henry is ok! Us bunny owners live in our nerves that's fif sure!

Hope the Tramadol works its magic.
Yeah, Henry is enjoying worrying me. I think some rabbits believe worrying their owners is a recognised vocation.

How is he today, Katie? Poor Daisy. I have a soft spot for him, as hes such a diva about things - typical nethie Love

I hope that things can continue to be managed, and that he remains bright. Its certainly a worry when it gets to the point of needing tramadol and things, bless his little squishyness Love Give him a head rub from me. xxx

Well he's still not eating properly although he is nibbling more than he was. he seems quite bright in himself which is good, so fingers crossed the tramadol isn't making him feel woozy. Id hate it if he didnt feel well all the time.

Aw bless him. Is there a chance that he needs to get used to the tramadol, like our bodies sometimes need time to adjust to new meds?
