Temperance.

Post by iiisecondcreep on Sat Nov 21, 2015 2:36 pm

On July 18th 2011, she was here:

It doesn't look as bad as it was, thats because the SSPCA had been out that day. The clean shavings were the first clean shavings that had been added in at least 2 years and the huge pile on the floor had been removed from the hutch that day as well. She was fed once every few weeks, or whenever they remembered, same with water. She was forgotton about. The shed was always cold, probably what saved her from getting fly strike! I had to climb into the hutch to get her out, she tried to dig a hole into the sleeping area at the end of the hutch- the dirty bedding was so deep so couldn't fit through the hole.

Sadly she wasn't the only animal being neglected, there were horses as well and dogs that were kept in stables and hadn't been cleaned out for weeks. On first look it appeared that there was cotton wool over the floor, but it was mouldy faeces. The smell was absolutely horrendous. The SSPCA were informed, however they decided that rather than just turn up, they would call up, explain the full extent of the complaint that had been made and arrange a time and date to come out and investigate. Of course, everything was peachy by the time the visit came. Unfortunately, we were unable to make a difference to those other animals, but I like to think we made a difference to this one!

She was a bit overweight, had slight urine scald, overgrown toe nails and slight spurs on some teeth. Not bad considering!

She was playful immediately and took great pleasure in ripping up the newspaper I was putting down for her

And saw daylight, and felt the sun on her face for the first time in who knows how long

But she was a shy little thing, and was too scared to come out of her pen for ages. Even getting her to leave the dog crate took a while, but she eventually realised she could make more mess if she stepped outside

She was pretty nervous of us at first and didnít want to be touched although she would tolerate the occasional pet. Then one day...

The first time she left the pen we were sitting in the living room watching something, the light was out and we heard this funny scrabbling noise. We switched the light on and she had came out into the living room and was zooming in small circles and doing little binkies. I was over the moon, now we knew she was happy.

She was a relentless destructobun, and she thought it was hilarious.

We lost count of the amount of cables she destroyed!
She settled in well to life as a house bun, and she certainly enjoyed her home comforts. Like watching tv

She was good at making her feelings known...

With her new found happiness came a beautiful mane!

She had her first Christmas, which she LOVED and discovered her love of hats at the same time

Christmas wasnít the only seasonal holiday she enjoyed...

She had the occasional visit outside to feel the wind in her mane and the grass under her paws, she wasnít sure about it at first...

But ultimately enjoyed the adventure Smile

She enjoyed games, and her favourite was hide and seek

Followed by tug of war

She enjoyed playing by herself too, though sometimes it got her in a spot of bother

She loved food, and any attempt to deny her noms would result in being bunmugged.

Although she was enjoying her new life, we felt there was something missing. So, we took her on a special trip where she met MJ. It was love at first sight

From that moment on they were completely devoted to each other

Before I brought Temperance home, I had no idea rabbits could be so hilarious and have such great/terrible sense of humour (depending on how funny you find bunstruction...!), she had such an amazing personality, she was so joyful, affectionate, loving both with us and MJ. We hadn't even planned to keep her, she only stayed at first because all the rescues were full. But after a very short time, I knew she had to stay. She was a great nose beeper, everything got a beep. Sitting watching tv youíd get a beep on the ankle, then a harder one. If you didnít reach down and pet her, beeps were quickly followed by digging at feet and nipping! Sometimes she didnít even want petted and if you went to pet her she would run around the foot rest and start from the other side.

She had a multitude of nicknames, Templebum, smooshybun, Tenpence, bunstable smoosh and probably more. Mostly, I just called her Smoosh, and I guess she liked it because she always came running.

These are some of my favourite videos of her

I think she enjoyed her life here, and I am so glad and feel so privileged to have had the time we had together. †I thought we would have had many more years together, but life can be cruel and unfair. On the 12th of October 2015 we were at the vet school for MJís eye check up. She had lost quite a lot of weight while weíd been on holiday a few weeks before, she had seen our own vet but I asked the exotics vet to have a look at her anyway. I was concerned, but I didnít expect anything worse than another big vet bill. The news we got was unexpected and devastating.

The next morning we went to the shop and got a new blanket, and lots of treats. She was spoiled even more than usual, she even finally got to eat some chocolate.

At about 11.30 the vet came to our flat, and she was helped to the bridge with MJ, me and my other half by her side, gently stroking her.
My beautiful, darling sweetie bun. This has been so hard to write. I miss you so much, we all do. You were such a huge part of our lives. You not being here just doesnít make sense. I hope you are having fun at the bridge, I canít wait until we meet again.

What a lovely tribute to a lovely bun Love

I had forgotten what a truly awful place she had come from. I remembered it was bad, but not that bad.

I do, however, remember you introducing her as your "temporary house guest" and I remember smiling when you said she was staying. I also remember her trashing the dog crate, and when she first ventured out of it.

Temperance was one lucky bunny to end up with you guys. I bet she even forgot all the horrible times from her old life!

Temperance, we are all very sad that you're gone! I have recently started buying Innocent Smoothies and every time I put a box in my trolley or take one out of the fridge, I think of you Love I'm sure I always will.

Sleep well, little lady. †You will be very much missed around here xx

Hugs Hugs Hugs to your hoomins and to MJ x

She was Glorious.
There's no other way to describe her. I adored that black nose ... how could you resist giving it a rub, a million rubs?
And the name... Judging by the wine bottle Temperance was not in her nature! In fact I think she did nothing by halves.
Dear, sweet, Glorious bun!
