Those of you with dental buns
How much do you usually pay? Do you claim the cost back from your pet insurance? Did it raise your premiums by much?

Re: Those of you with dental buns
I started a thread asking the same thing earlier this year:
https://happyhoppers.forumotion.co.uk/t24912-how-much-do-we-all-pay-for-dentals?highlight=Dentals
I didn't for Molly's first one. Not sure why not! I did for the second one because it included a weekend stay for them both at the animal hospital!
We haven't reached renewal date yet so no idea how the policy will change. I'm sure someone told me they can't put the premiums up tho! But maybe they can exclude dental work in future years?

Re: Those of you with dental buns
Petplan didn't cover dentals when I had Loll and because the first thing the vet said when she examined Henry was that he had small molar spurs (and because of his age) I didn't insure him.
He has never had a dental dental... just had tooth spurs removed while under GA for other things. But I believe his vet charges about £50 a time.

Re: Those of you with dental buns
Petplan don't cover denrals but sometimes the go or the first one as a goodwill gesture.
We have claimed up to the maximum for all three on the buns for the last 4 years and their premiums have only gone up be £2 each, which I don't think is bad at all!
Is one of yours having teefs probs Hun?

Hmm I thought they covered it as long as you had them checked every 6 months? I'll have to check the policy docs

Re: Those of you with dental buns
Katie, I've just had a google and it's conflicting, I know when I spoke to them before they said as long as I get his teeth checked every 6 months they would cover dental work... Problem is I have no clue when that phone call was to prove it!!! My general conditions don't specify that they don't cover burrs/spurs etc, neither does the 'what we won't pay section' all it does say is that i must arrange and pay for my pet to have a yearly dental examination and any treatment the vet recommends" bit vague really. This is going to bother me, this whole time I thought he was covered for dentals and was in fact told so!!!

There's been big question marks over this before! Some say they do, some say they don't.Zo wrote:KatieB wrote:Petplan don't cover denrals but sometimes the go or the first one as a goodwill gesture.

Our docs say similar to yours re having them checked, but ours says once a year! I always get it done at vaccination time.
It might be clever wording and a little bit sneaky, maybe they'll only pay out for the first one if the checks are up to date.
Who knows really!

Re: Those of you with dental buns
I had Loll insured from day one. Never got a penny out of Petplan ... just a letter of condolences after he died. He had his first dental age 6, three years after I got him and because there was all the ooh-ha going on about his hairball and mites and whether or not he had arthritis they said that his tooth problem was due to poor diet after arthritis setting in.
I was having so many issues with the vets at the time to deal with, as well as nursing (and worrying over) Loll, that I couldn't face taking on the Insurance company as well. I just wrote off the premiums I'd paid and swore No More Insurance.
If I had all the cash I've paid in house, car and pet insurance now I'd have no worries about my old age.... paid in thousands, claimed nowt! Twice I tried and they wangled out of paying.

Re: Those of you with dental buns
When mine were with petplan it said clearly no routine dental work, and PAH says the same. However Bruce's dental s have typically been around or just under the excess so not worth trying to claim.

Re: Those of you with dental buns
My last rabbit dental was about £80.
Petplan have paid out for this dental treatment. It is associated with the treatment of an abscess - Erin had to have a tooth removed when having an abscess treated and the problem tooth is the opposing tooth which now develops a spur. Given her excess is now over £100 + 20% she would need several dentals a year to be worth claiming though she is having check ups as well so that's going on the bill .. and will be going on the claim.
I've also put a claim in for Dinky for a dental (Pets at Home) but don't know the outcome yet.

Re: Those of you with dental buns
This is the reason why I ended with pet plan. Despite sating that if the rabbits teeth are checked every 6 month it would cover dentals they refused on Bubbles. Then told me they won't cover any thing neurological on D' Layla. In that case I don't need insurance.
