Poop Question
It's quite simple: How often does your rabbit poo?
Since all of his problems over Nov/Dec my Henry seems to have changed some of his habits. He used to eat all his breakfast pellets at breakfast time, his afternoon greens when presented, his evening pellets all went as soon as presented and so did his end of day herbs (fresh or dried). And he ate hay like it was going out of fashion.
He always presented me with piles of magnificent poo, big golden brown specimens, throughout the day. At least four or five deposits.
Now his feeding habits have changed and his breakfast pellets will linger until early evening, his afternoon greens likewise. I feed his evening pellets later than I used to, after he has cleaned up his morning ration, and his evening herbs are often fed as a garnish on those pellets. He will eat hay in the morning, sometimes during the day but mainly in the evening.
Almost all his eating is now done in the evening but he does eat just as much as ever; it's just his eating times that have changed.
As for his poo... well, I clean his tray at around 8-30 each morning and there's often no poo from then until 8-00 in the evening. His poops are still quite splendid and nothing to worry about. But I am a tad puzzled by these changes, especially the non-pooping during the day.
Is this unusual?
What's your rabbits habits?
Is there anything I should be worrying about?

Re: Poop Question
I wish I could help you here but I have no idea I've never been conscious of pooping times etc.
That does seem like a long time not to poop tho.
Is he sleeping mostly, during the day? I guess a sleeping bunny won't be pooping much!

Re: Poop Question
When we got Soundwave he took a reaction to his jag ended up with a huge abcess, he changed what he liked his eating habits(completely stopped eating hay) and his poos went slightly darker. The vet said it was because they get fed up with the medication and the treatment. I had to change his pellets.
Hope that helps slightly

Re: Poop Question
Elijah is the only one of my 18 rabbits that I can tell you any details about his poop habits and that's because he has been plagued with stasis episodes so I monitored closely.
Whenever I've cleaned the tray out in the early morning I've noticed it's been empty until about 9pm when he produces a massive pile of droppings. However, it *might* be that he doesn't as I think not poop during those 12 or so hours but that he actually eats the droppings he produces (a theory suggested by my vet and I have since watched him eat his normal, hard droppings). He has had blockage surgery and it was indeed a faecal pellet that caused the blockage. Weirdly enough, Elijah's stasis episodes have been less this year and I have noticed droppings during the day more often than previous years, so his habits have changed.
... so, maybe eating them rather than not producing them could be the answer?

Re: Poop Question
No, Henners isn't eating anything other than his c's. We live cheek by jowl and especially when he was in the crate I was/am very aware of his habits.
I know the pain from his muscle injury instigated this change of habits. I just find it strange that he's showing no signs of going back to his old ways.

Re: Poop Question
My two have a very set routine morning is greens evenings are pellets in between is hay. I find there are not many poos produced between 10 and 6 during the day because that is sleep time then whereas earlier in the morning and the evening is nomming and exercising time so this results in poos. The only change to this is during fine weekends spent nomming grass on the garden then the bellies empty as they get full.

Re: Poop Question
Cheryl: probably right and it is natural for his new feeding pattern. Just wish he would be the ravenous gannet he used to be and gobble up everything I put in front of him straight away. It made it so much easier for me, now I look at a half eaten breakfast and worry that he's injured himself again and is going off his food again.
Guess it's something I shall have to get used to.

Re: Poop Question
Oh Henners, what are you doing to your mum?
My couple poo at all times and then empty their litter tray content out. Bubbles that is. I always do mine in the evening and some mornings there is only little poo in there which I guess is that they were asleep.
Over the day this changes and by the afternoon we have the mess.
Not sure whether this is helpful but shared.

We have a steady flow throughout the day from all here, doesn't sound right, but perhaps his little body is just taking a little while to get back to normal?

Re: Poop Question
He's been rather quiet over the last thirty-six hours. Looking sorry for himself so I think maybe he has strained his injury again, maybe while I was in bed. He's still eating and has had a couple of hops around today but does look like he's feeling sore. Think I shall have to start sleeping on the hearth rug again.
I'm wondering if pooing entails the use of the injured muscles in any way... I've cut out a section of his litter tray to one inch high but he doesn't always go that way and maybe a jump in (or out) of his tray has hurt him .... I think this is going to take a long time to recover.

Re: Poop Question
He's like the English weather.... all blow and go one day, quiet the next. It's just impossible to keep him quiet when he's feeling well. He's in mid-leap before you know it! And caging him ? Well, the way he put his back into his escape attempts... he'd do himself an even worse injury there. And I returned the crate today.

Re: Poop Question
Just an half hour after writing the last post Henry woke up... Really WOKE UP!
He was full of it. He had an half hour session nest Building! He was collecting mouthfuls of hay and hopping off to start a nest in numerous spots, like, in the corner under the book shelves, beneath my desk and my foot stool and finally in the coal scuttle!
Then he wanted nose rubs and ear tickles and tummy rubs.
Then it was time to go exploring elsewhere in the house.
He was on the go non-stop for seven and a half hours and ate really well during his fuel stops.
It was wonderful watching him ... hell cleaning up the scattered hay!

Re: Poop Question
He was fine until the dratted landlord decided to have the loudest fireworks ever!
Henry stamped and stamped and stamped and stamped and stamped and stamped ! ! ! !
Today he's as sore as old Jack! The worst he's been since he came out of the crate. Two weeks recovery wiped out in five minutes.
He is eating but he looks so miserable.

Re: Poop Question
The miserable look as gone, so I'm guessing (hoping) the pain as too; he's resting easy too and occasionally having a hop around but he seems to be aware that if he plays or gets too energetic it will hurt.
Still eating well... but pooping only at night!

Re: Poop Question
Thanks guys.
The fireworks came as a bit of a shock as my landlord normally doesn't bother (too tight). But I believe his new partner may have had a say in it, she has kids.
Henry seems over that little set back now. I actually think it might have done him a bit of good and made him wary of over exertion. He's been busy rearranging his things today, shifting his belongings from one side of the room to the other. I do wonder if he is the reincarnation of an interior designer the way he nest builds and shifts his gear around, and he has to have the final say on where I put furniture.
