The threat of VHD and now - RHDV2 in UK

Post by Big Ears on Sun Jan 10, 2016 10:18 am

Just in case you are not up to speed with all this. There have been confirmed cases of RHDV2 in the south but I heard news yesterday of a confirmed case in Harrogate, North Yorkshire so the threat is spreading.

Here's an article on RHVD/RHVD2
https://www.harcourt-brown.co.uk/articles/infectious-disease/viral-diseases/rabbit-haemorrhagic-disease-and-its-variants-lagoviruses

Word is that the licence to get the vaccine into the UK has been granted so will be available in a few weeks, though individual vets may need prompting to get some as the demand might not be widespread just yet.

I have been watching this evolve on FB.

Scary.

The sooner the vaccine is available, the better.

Does this mean that they need the regular 2-in-1 vaccine plus another seperate vaccine for RHDV2?

From what I've read, yes. I think the disease has mutated. I think.

Big Ears, help!! Embarassed Laughing

Whatever it is, the current vaccine doesnt protect them.

I think it's a case of waiting to be advised but it does seem like we will need a second vaccination. I've heard the initial vaccination is 2 injections 3 weeks apart ... what happens after that I have no idea....
