Cat and Rabbit relationships?
We're thinking of getting a kitten to add to our family Does anybody else have cats and house rabbits and if so does this seem to work well and what is the best time to get a kitten? Of course, we want Mr. Magoo to be completely happy and I have read on the house rabbit society that cats and bunnies can make good friendships although that surprises me! What does everyone else think?
Re: Cat and Rabbit relationships?
I guess its no different to having a dog - you just have to teach the cat that bunnies are "friends not food" & mean no harm.

Re: Cat and Rabbit relationships?
We introduced our newborn kittens to the bunnies from about 3 or 4 weeks.
Because the buns were so much bigger (and, frankly, harder!) they sniffed the cats and then weren't bothered. The kittens, having grown up around the bunnies, weren't bothered either. The cats would often jump into the bunny pen to nick their water or just lie down and the two just kind of ignored each other.
I reckon the earlier you introduce them the better, before the cat gets big enough to realise it's supposed to be a predator! If Mr Magoo is 'top dog' so to speak, and the cats are young enough then that relationship will stick.
Mind you, with Olly in the UK and Fatty (the kittens' mum) here, both adults, I never had a problem either! Maybe I just have brick s**thouse buns :lol!:

Well when mine are free ranging my cats will stork and pounce on my three, but they are big pussy cats really because Ghostie chased Max once and he was petrified!
Re: Cat and Rabbit relationships?
Foxglove chases my cats. My cats are orientals and so not very big. Not sure what the situation would be if i had a large bruiser of a cat! My cats were here first so was fine when Foxy turned up as a baby. And one of my cats hunts rabbits too but i think coz Foxy had no fear they didn't think of her as prey - more of an annoying thing they want to avoid.

My cats and bunnies get on well. Mos of the time they are indifferent to each other. When they were kittens they played with the buns x

I have outdoor buns but if it's been raining I bring them in. I have a cat (9 years now) and he just looks at them with interest but has never been that bothered by them tbh.

Re: Cat and Rabbit relationships?
my cats and rabbits get on fine! when Angel & SD were house rabbits Yin & Yang were just amused by them but if anything they were the ones a little scared, not the rabbits! Now that my rabbits are outside in the enclosure when the cats are in the garden they mainly just ignore each other but occasionally I take a cat in the enclosure with me and they dont mind in the slightest. Cats love sleeping in straw as well! Strangely enough though when the horrible Stephen King cat has come into my garden the rabbits were very stressed & thumping. But he is evil in cat form. But they are fine with my cats! I would go for it, its a perfectly fine combo in my experience!

Re: Cat and Rabbit relationships?
well.....
rabbit says : kiss??
cat answers : don't you need eating some carrots or such?
they get along fine, I have one cat that sleeps with rabbits and piggies.
We were always afraid a cat might bite a rabbit, but the vet said a rabbit can hurt a kitten more. But no probs here
