I've not used it but it is an NSAID like Metacam. Not sure why your vet would give it to you instead though or if there is any major difference between the two.

Hopefully someone else may know.

Hermy was prescibed it, Meloxidyl is EXACLY the same drug as Metacam. Meloxidyl is the generic drug, whereas Metacam is the branded. Wave

I thought meloxicam was the generic drug....Hmmm

ETA: Here you are, was easier when I knew what to look for Laughing meloxicam is the active ingrediant in Meloxidyl which is the unbranded version of Metacam!

The application concerns MELOXIDYL, a generic medicinal product as defined in Article 13(2)(b) of
Directive 2001/82/EC, as amended by Directive 2004/28/EC. The reference veterinary medicinal
product is Metacam 1.5 mg/ml oral suspension for dogs, a product with a Community Marketing
Authorisation and originally authorised in Germany in 1992.
The active substance is Meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug belonging to the acidic
enolcarboxamide (oxicam) class. In vitro, Meloxicam is preferentially active against
cyclooxygenase-2. The recommended posology consists of an initial single dose of 0.2 mg
Meloxicam/kg body weight on the first day, followed by once daily administration (24-hour intervals)
of 0.1 mg Meloxicam/kg body weight. The product is to be administered mixed with food.

Some folks do get muddles about it but it's the same stuff, I wish they would all use the same name, it would be much easier Rolling Eyes Laughing
