Curiouser and curiouser/ UD there is an answer
I see my local RSPCA centre has shut it's doors to incoming animals and also to visitors. The website says that this is because of a highly infectious disease that may be caught by humans. Now a week ago they withdrew their rabbits from being rehomed due to infection so it sounds as if this might be the cause. But it has me curious as to what the illness could be. E.C would only affect the most immune compromised people, Pasturella would require very close contact. I wondered about the bacteria that causes some types of snuffles in buns and kennel cough in dogs, but is that transferable to humans? I guess I feel my knowledge of rabbit zoonses is not very good.

Perhaps they all have Vince's syphilis
(it's not transferable between humans and animals, luckily)

dirty Vince
Cheryl, I do know that the RSPCA are well OTT about being sued about anything at all, and if there is an EC outbreak, then I can see why they would have done this - old people, HIV+ people, and generally ill people can be affected by coming into contact.
The only other thing is that it may be Myxi or Cocc. and they don't want to risk people taking it home and infecting other buns.

The message on their website says
'We have a possible infection that can be highly contagious to both animals and people.'
which would imply it is more than just something they would be taking home with them to their animals.

mmmm. may not be bunny related - perhaps it's rabies...
I don't think there's a highly infectious rabbit illness thats zoonotic.
As you say...curiouser & curiouser...

Re: Curiouser and curiouser/ UD there is an answer
They are to reopen on Thursday and they have announced they had suspected parvo virus. Not usual in buns but I am still assuming they must have been the source as the centre removed all of it's rabbits from teh website saying they were unwell. The dogs and cats remained advertised just not visitable.
