Need some more tips....
...besides porridge does anyone have any other idea's or recipies for fattening up a thin bunny? Lexie is still a good deal thinner than I would like despite eating a huge bowl of pellets, some porridge and ad-lib Ready Grass each day.
I've just realised she is 5 now, so starting to get on in the rabbit world. I really would like her to have a few more years left and will do anything I can to help keep her going. She is a dental rabbit but that isn't why she is currently underweight, she has ongoing Pasteurella which requires very long antibiotic courses....infact she is almost permenantly on abx nowdays .

With her being a dental bun she wouldn't manage almonds or peanuts We fatten up our older/thinner buns with weetabix (crushed if they can't manage to crunch it themselves), arrowroot biscuit (also good for settling tummies), hipp organic baby food (potato and carrot or apple and blueberry are the ones we use), chopped grapes, obviously all in moderation and watch for squitty bums and adjust accordingly. Junior and Dwarf has a higher protein content which would also help and can be used in conjunction with lower protein pellets. I haven't tried the SS Senior so I don't know what the protein content of that is.
We mix the antibios and other meds in the babyfood too, just to make it easier for them to take, metacam can be added to this too for any bun which requires painkiller.

would she manage alfalfa and some of the higher content stuff that pregnant does benefit from?

Re: Need some more tips....
Hay is a sticking point, the only hay type food she will eat is Ready Grass and that is very fattening anyway so i would stick the that over trying to force alfalfa down her.
We have some wheat-a-bix which she could have and I use the Hipp blackberry food you mentioned for post-op rabbits so I could get soem more of that in.
Do you think she could manage the nuts if I crushed them for her?

Re: Need some more tips....
Yep, just crush them really small if you can and mix it in with something moist so's it sticks and gets swallowed
Re: Need some more tips....
Forgot to say, we use Allen & Page to get extra fibre into poorly buns, our Kobe has no working teeth at all and he loves A&P, I think he swallows it dry and whole
Re: Need some more tips....
She eats A&P all the time as she previously had problems with her fiber intake before we discovered Ready Grass.
I'll do some shopping for her when I pop to the vets on Tuesday. Thanks for the advice.

Cool
And make sure she's kept nice and warm, cos trying to keep warm without help will burn up a lot of calories.
