124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
Between myself and DixieLuBun, last year for our little branch of the RSPCA we rehomed 124 bunnies! We are so happy but also acutely aware that this shows a real need This is something we would like to reduce. Dawn has the lion's share of the buns so should largely take the credit. The sad truth however is that most of these rabbits were the result of accidental litters which means that the message about neuteruing just isn't getting through. A lot were also people who just got bored of their latest 'toy' and didn't want it anymore This again means education just isn't getting out there. I can imagine that all other rescues are experiencing the exact same situations. Still, we cannot give up.
Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
for the numbers, but for re-homing so many, you're doing a wonderful job, as are all the rescues at the mo
Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
You are doing a fantastic job.
I just wish people wouldnt think that its a good idea to let their buns breed. What do they think will happen to the babies?

They end up clogging up rescues who then have to turn yet more buns in need away And who knows what happens to them.
Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
If I won the lottery, I would have a rescue but I don;t think I'm alone there. You are doing a great job.

It is just sad that the message doesn't seem to be getting through. We beat last years rehoming number, which only means that the problem is either the same or growing and the message just isn't sinking in

Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
That is brilliant!! But I suppose without proper figures from around the country you can't know if the problems worse or not .
I don't know why people feel the need to have their pets breed, especially when they aren't a pure bred or something where people would maybe purchase them for show.
Recently someone I used to know who is on my facebook has let her bunnys breed, for the second time and she had 6 babies...They are very cute, but it's really not worth the suffering they could face. If people want pet rabbits there's plenty to go around, i expect for atleast one for each person in the country if not more!

I think the cost of neutering puts people off, it's so stupidly expensive

Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
What a brilliant job you and Dawn and all the other rescues do Charlotte.
Like Jolovelsbunnies, I too would open a rescue if I won the lottery, as I would
be able to afford to have someone come in every day to feed and clean them
out. I know I could not manage it on my own as it takes me all my time to look after my six, as it is.
I really don't know how you manage on your own. Well done. x

Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
It is great to have helped so many but it isn't great that we are getting so many in
Re: 124 Rabbits Rehomed Last Year
That is marvellous. Well done to you and DixieLu. That is 124 bunnies with a happy future. Just wish people would think about rabbits in the same way as cats and dogs. People realise that they need to get them neutered but just don't think it matters for rabbits until they find babies the next day. Then it is someone else's problem. Grrrrrrr
