Daft question
When cardboard boxes are used for rabbits to play with etc, is it ok for them to chew and eat them? I worry about this incase they can't digest it.

Re: Daft question
I suppose cardboard is made from a natural material so it is all fibre in the end. The only problem would be if they filled up on cardboard and didn't eat enough food and hay and there is little nutritional value

Re: Daft question
Thanks thats brill, I have been so worried in the past but noticed a lot of you here use boxes so thought it must be ok. I'l get one for him now.
Basil is so cheeky but very soft, it's unbelievable he has been a house bunny lately due to the weather being so bad, through this he has become really used to us, lets us stroke him for ever, tells us when he's bored, everytime the fridge opens he stands on his back legs looking for food, he's back to playing outside now, he's still got his thick coat but we bring him in at night. I'm such a worrier I know it's the wrong thing to do, but he won't sleep in his warm bit of cage, and I can't sleep thinking about him in the cold.
I'm adopting two rabbits at the weekend (my friend is allergic to them) and they will have to stay outside, thats also why I was asking about boxes so I can stuff one with straw for extra warmth.

Not a problem, and there is no such thing as stupid question. If it is something that you are worried or unsure about, please ask as that is what we are here for.

This is true, and there is also a risk of compaction if too much consumed, and it can also be a sign that the bunny is lacking in fibre.
Re: Daft question
And can also say, NO question is daft when it comes to your bunny and other pets!!!

Re: Daft question
I do try to avoid using boxes that contain a lot of colourant or have a glossy finish because I'm not sure how healthy those chemicals are to consume, but I've never had a problem with them chewing plain cardboard boxes.
