Rabbit holiday boarding Empty Rabbit holiday boarding

Post by Vince the bunny Thu Mar 03, 2011 12:31 pm

I'm off on my hols soon for a few days and have found an affordable boarding place for my buns (guinea piggies are going to the MIL's) Thing is, I don't want to send them there Rabbit holiday boarding 423553 They will have a single storey hutch 7ft long but limited time in a small run on the lawn. I'm not happy. I looked at other places which were more than double the price which I cannot afford.

My sister has offered to come over and care for the buns at my house but I'm worried she ay find it a bit much as I sweep them round twice a day now the nights are getting lighter plus noone will be around to keep an eye on them most of the day. I worry about the foxes in case they get scared. I find the buns do take a lot of care and I'm worried no one can care for them the way I do. DH says 'they are just rabbits' well, yes they are but they are MY rabbits and I put a lot of thought and care into their lives as it's important to me that they are happy and can do their rabbity business
as much as the confines of being a pet can allow.

I don't know what to do really, I hate the thought of my buns beeing cooped up in a hutch all day, I don;t want them to think I
have rehomed them and forgotten about them Rabbit holiday boarding 423553 If it was just one bun I had, I'd take it with me, DH would love that Rabbit holiday boarding 811805

I know exactly what you mean! I hardly ever go away because of my bunnies. If I do though, I know a fellow bunny person who feeds n waters them, cleans hutches, and knows what she's doing. But nothing can prevent the guilt and worry I feel! She realises this though and texts me with updates and reassurances, but its still awful being away from them.

I was hoping you were nearer, because if you could have got their hutches and runs to me they could have come to me and I would look after them for you.

Ah this is so hard. I'm going OS for about two months this year and I know I will cry from missing my babies.

How long are you going away for? I went away for 4 weeks a couple of years ago, and my bunnies recognised me when I returned, although it took them a few hours to start acting like they normally do towards me.

Is there any way of your sister sharing the bunny minding duties with another family member or friend? Maybe one could come in the morning/night and another visit during the day? Do any of your buns have health problems? If they do, I'd probably put them in the boarding house just to ensure that someone can see if they become ill.

Well it's only a few days, I know how you feel but I'm sure they'll be fine.
I think it would be best for your sister to take care of them, it will spare them the change of hutch and place.

I know exactly how you feel sweetie, I don;t go on holidays anymore. There is one in north Devon, which is advertised in Rabbiting On, but I don;t know what her prices are like.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hugs

Jo xx

Such a shame you don't live near us as we do bunny boarding and our hutches have 10ft long and 5 ft wide play pens attched so that if it's raining or the weather is rough they can still have a play out in their play pens in the boarding shed. Or we have have indoor boarding with play pens.
