Baby guinea pig delivery! meet Twinkie and pinky!
Lara gave us a nice surprise today, she had her babies!
Meet Twinkie & Pinky (my brother and I named them), they are 40 minutes old!
I left a message on the owners phone telling them the good news and asking them if they would rather have their pet back next week as planned, or if they would prefer me taking care of the babies until they're old enough to go to a new home.
I exagerated a bit on the care they require, because I honestly don't want them to go back to such a bad home.
My mom is TOTALLY in love (actually we all are) and said that she is thinking about keeping one (if it's a male, because I know females have to live in pairs at least).
She adores guinea pigs so I wouldn't be surprised if we end up keeping one.
I'm ready for a pet piggie anyway, thanks to all the research I've done for Lara's owners, I know quite a bit about them now!

I know and their head too! They're so funny!
Pinky (the one that's hiding in the 2ns pic) keeps running around the cage and going through the cardboard tube even though she/he's just an hour old!
Twinkie is alot calmer and just stays with mommy all the time.

They are very cute It's also best for males to live in pairs too, so if you kept the male could you maybe get a friend for him? When they are quite young they are easier to pair up if that would be possible

We'll see, I was not planning on keeping any to start with, so it will be my mom's pet in case she wants to keep one.
If she decides to I will tell her about getting the guinea pig a buddy, and will remind her thath neutering is best.

They are gorgeous!
Did the owners get back to you yet. I hope they let you keep them for a while longer so that mum and babies get the care they need.

Ican't believe how big they are for 40 mins old! Baby rats are like little cashew nuts!
Why not neuter the male and keep them together One is no more work than two and it'd be lovely if they could stay together (plus perhaps mum could stay with them too if son is fixed?)

Re: Baby guinea pig delivery! meet Twinkie and pinky!
Still no news from the owner, they're away for the weekend so I'll know from them this week.
My mom thinks it would be best if they kept Pinky, the female, with her mommy, because Lara is rather lonely.
It's almost sure that we'll keep Twinkie, but mom still doesn't know if we'll get a mate for him.
If they fight she doesn't want to have 2 separate cages, so he will probably end up living alone.
I was told on another forum that if he gets lots of time outside the cage with us he'll be just fine, that it's mostly females who need company.

Oooh baby piggies. We have had a couple of litters in the past and I would love to again. Our name for baby piggies is "Choaties." Don't ask me why, it just suits them.
Thank you for your lovely pictures.
