Vibes for little one and advice for me please!
Hey everyone
Tigger has her Spey tomorrow, taking her in at 9.40am.
I'm quite scared, she's my first bun so everything is a learning curve, but she's the one going through this not me so I can't complain! So vibes for my little fluffy one
So far I'll be keeping her inside in a cage for 7 days, she will have a pet bed but if she won't sleep on it I'll swap to blankets and towels. I'll give her a bowl of water and see if she prefers to drink from that to save energy. I'll give the vets some spring greens, carrot, hay and grass and a couple of pellets to try and get her to eat afterwards.
If you have any advice in general on bun care after ops or Spey/ neutering it would be great to hear! Or if you have any advice or amendments to what I've said above.
Thanks

Re: Vibes for little one and advice for me please!
She will be very quiet afterwards but that does not necessarily mean she is in pain or distressed. Rabbits tend to quietly get on with things, so she will instinctively just sit for a day or so. Make sure that she has had a pain-killing injection before you take home - they usually last 24 hours - and that will be enough to get her over the op.
Provide her with food that she especially likes, and try to monitor whether she is eating and pooping. You can rinse her greens in water to get a bit more fluids into her. Don't worry if she is not interested in eating until the next day she will probably still be tired after her op. However, the next day try to tempt her if she isn't interested the day before. One approach I took was to push the food into her face so she grabbed it with her teeth, she then ate some of it in disgust with me. If it gets something in her tummy it helps, but don't worry too much, I am sure she will be fine.
Keep her warm, quiet and with available food and water and she will be back to normal soon.

Re: Vibes for little one and advice for me please!
I'm with you there, I don't know what to do with myself!
It's also the talk the vets have to have with you beforehand about the risks.
Thanks lovely, I will be sure to keep updating.

try and remain calm, it's hard, but necessary. sound like you're doing everything right
Re: Vibes for little one and advice for me please!
Just had the phone call!
She's just come round, quite groggy but is already tucking into the spring greens I sent her in with. I swear, nothing will put that girl off of her food!
Feeling very relieved, will let you know when she's home

She's home!
It makes me feel like I was worrying over nothing. She's very sleepy but her eyes lit up when I went in the room.
I was prepared for grunts and grumpiness but she's really calm and loving a good nose rub and fuss.
Another update tomorrow

I am so glad she is better, I know I have said that before but the nuzzling is so cute. There is nothing like a snuggly from a bunny is there?

Re: Vibes for little one and advice for me please!
Bunny snuggles are so lovely! it's great to feel loved by a little one.
Got a couple of questions.
How long after her spay should I wait to bed her back on straw?
Her poos aren't her normal colour yet, quite dark and she's left a couple of caecotrophes but I did see her eating some yesterday, but could this simply be because she's not quite back to normal yet?

It will just be because she isn't quite back to normal. But sounds as though she is doing great. As long as she looks like she is healing well you could probably put her back on straw now. x
Re: Vibes for little one and advice for me please!
Glad she is doing so brilliantly.
Yet more nose rubs for Tigger. x

Aww thankyou
She's getting back to her very cheeky self... She looks at her breakfast bowl, then at me, then back at the bowl. She couldn't be much more subtle
