Daisy is the same.....absolutely refuses to be picked up. Its because they are prey animals and being grabbed is what would happen by a predator. that and the fact he thinks he is king of the world!
Sounds like a fab idea popping them outside.
There are some good ideas in "the property ladder" section and ill have a little look when I get in this eve for you too if I get the chance.

If I have to pick mine up - usually for the vet - I catch them with a towel. I have had a couple of spectacular scratches on my face from trying to do it without a towel, so wouldn't recommend it. They kick like a donkey!

Tigger refuses to be picked up. Kicks her legs out like a donkey and legs it. She's an angel though when it comes to the vets and people she doesn't know in an unusual place bum checks become a struggle with me.

Thanks guys, yeh bum checks are a problem, nails are going to be even harder! They are happy to come to us and be stroked though so thats good. Your right about the vets, when i took them for their mixi jabs they were like little statues, the vet told me i must be handling them really well as they were so compliant (I just took the praise and didnt point out they were actually frozen with fear!)

Daisy is the same....good as gold at the vets....a DEMON with me. He was also good when he went to Jay's. I think they just like to play up for their mummys and daddys.

I think it's a good idea Jay.
Is he there all the time now already?
Your balcony sounds like a little bun paradise. It should also make his indoor runs more special when he's with you.

Hi Jay,
Balcony sounds like a lovey plavce to be in the warm summer evenings
Could you use chicken wire so Stewie has a balcony with a view
Otherwise would he chew through the bamboo and end up flying off the balcony...

Thanks, Dawn, but he doesn't chew it at all, but we like the fence because it gives us privacy, the balcony feels very exposed without it! The other thing is that we have a couple of hawks around, and a Buzzard or two, so I'd like to keep visibility to a minimu, although I doubt for a minute they'd try and get him, but you never know...

Hi Jay,
Stewie might not chew it now but if he is left on balcony with no daddy to watch him,... I reckon he might just get up to mischief and begin a chew feast.... Perhaps you could put chicken wire first then cover that with bamboo... you could always cut little peeop holes .. bunny height for a descreet Stewie view

The balcony is going to re-painted soon, so I'll look at this then, as we'll have to pull all the fencing down and prob replace it
