Rabbit thief is jailed
A DRUNKEN youth who stole a pet bunny from a children's nursery during a rabbit shooting expedition has been jailed.
Stephen McLeod left youngsters in tears and most of Peebles outraged after Crunchie disappeared - and has never been found.

The times, they are a' changing...I never thought I'd see the day when this kinda crime against a rabbit & its owners would be taken as seriously as a similar one against a dog.
Re: Rabbit thief is jailed
'He wrongly thought it could survive in the wild'? Yeah right. Glad he got some sort of punishment for it, hopefully he won't do it again, and it may deter other gits doing this, too.
This is the reason my bunnies live indoors.

Heard a story round here, that some kids chucked a hutch with mother & babies in onto a bonfire...
Dunno how people can live with themselves....

It is dreadful that people can even consider doing something so awful. Just what IS the point! What kind of lives to these people come from. It is just so scary that their values are so skewed.

Re: Rabbit thief is jailed
I can't read all the story as if I do I won't sleep as I will just dwell on it. I have never known so much animal cruelty as there is nowadays it's awful, we moved from our house in Preston, Lancashire as the kids and teenagers that lived on the estate next to us use to throw stones at our rabbit's when they were out in their runs, we had five rabbits in a shed in the garden and we brought them into the house to live as we were scared the kids might torch the shed with the rabbits in.
I'm glad that the thug was sent to prison I hope every day that he does in there he suffers like that poor rabbit must have.

Re: Rabbit thief is jailed
We had guinea pigs when i was at primary school and i would count down the weeks untill it was my turn to take them home for the wkend, and we would have to write about what they did- i can remember one peeïng on my grandpa! They dont have any pets at my daughters school, i expect not all class pets would have the best life. I might offer to take felix in, i thïnk she would enjoy the fuss and gets excited when we have visitors. Our class pets taught us to have respect for animals, and comming from a home where we didnt have pets at that time it was educational.
Apparently willow and felix are big news in yasmins class, they think its amazing they live in the house and hop into their cage to go tgo the loo, and those children that have been round to play since we have had them boast to the others! They all know which is which and were worried about felix limping. I have about 5 lovely drawings of them done by yasmin and her friends.
Its important to teach children about animals, there is no such thing as a bad kid, just scared kids who have a **** life, and boy i have seen enough of them in my career x

Totally agree with this. We all start off a blank sheet. It is what happens to us in our first couple of years and then afterwards that makes such a fundamental difference to how we are as adults.

Re: Rabbit thief is jailed
We do seem so quick to look at children's actions as their own, without looking holistically at their learned behaviours etc. and the element in their lives that have created their challenges.
I'm glad this guy was sent down, hopefully it sends a message out, although it didn't make the national press - but when a woman puts a cat in a bin....

Re: Rabbit thief is jailed
I am sickened by this, these incidents along with others I have heard will now pray on my mind. As for the bunnies in the lab and the mum and babies being thrown on the fire and all the other incidents, I would do exactly the same to them. This is not something said in the heat of the moment, I mean it!!
I feel furious, sick and totally helpless to save little ones from horrors such as these.
Hugs
