Hey,

How are the girls sticky butts? Are you still having a problem with it?

If yes, I've had a thought that MIGHT be worth a try if they are still bothered with it Smile

Ha! Sounds like you are one step ahead of me!

I was actually going to suggest ditching the tap water if you hadn't already tried that. Thumper used to be really bothered with the same when she was younger and I tried everything, changed the straw, hay and food (slowly of course!) but it didn't make a difference.

When none of that worked, it dawned on me that the one thing I hadn't changed was her water so I gave her bottled water and the dirty bums stopped as quick as you could blink!

Needless to say, it's been bottled water ever since!

I can't believe I never though to suggest it before, but it was sooooo long ago Smile

What food are they on Beki as we had lots of bunnies with sticky buns and we changed their dry pellets from Burgess Excel Adult to Sience Selective Adult and they were much much better eventually we took most of them off the dry and they just have hay and greens and herbs now Smile

They are on excel junior, I considered changing it, but their butts calmed down, they just react again to any new introduction. Im not introducing any new veg at the moment as they should have their pellets switched over soon now that they are 6 mnths, I may go with science selective for their adult pellets - willoe and felix are both a decent weight now, but i wont change it untill they have been spayed I think - willow cant afford to lose any. Rory is good on the excel junior, but the poor little thing was fed all sorts when he was little as you know so his tummy is robust it seems!

Dandelions are a trigger, too much readi grass, and also apple, I just have to be really carefull to give them miniscule amounts of new things, and as soon as i see a sticky poo they have the delight of a bum wash!

Rory is back at the specialist on Monday, I think his pupil looks more pussy though the iris isnt blood filled anymore - i reckon he is going to have to have it out, so all neuturing and spaying plans are on hold untill Roars is sorted out, I have said it before, will say it again - this boy is divine, I will not lose him, if his eye is worse then I want it out the same day, I wont run the risk of leaving it to infect his brain. All of this worry aside, he is happy as ever, apart from that one day when he stopped eating, he is positively ecstatic all the time, everything he does just oozes contentment!

Dynamics with Willow and Felix have shifted, Felix is bossing Willow about, and Willow once again wants alot of fuss from me, she has decided she loves me after all! I am really happy with this as she is my baby, my first titchy tiny skinny unhappy kit that used to sleep in my jumper - seems she had her hissy teenage fit and has calmed down a bit Very Happy

We had a rabbit called 'Keegan' like Felix and Willow and we just stopped giving him greens altogether as they just went straight through him, the same with apple. Keegan also had problems with his calcium levels and we would have to have them checked out every so many months and we had to check the ingredients of everything we gave him to eat. He had lots of problems with his digestive system Bless him.

Oh ok, thats interesting, I wonder if its because they were weaned at 3 weeks so their tummys did not get the gut flora from their mother. They ar fine in celery, spring green, small amount of spinach and coriander, broccoli and a really tiny amount of parsley, bit of carrot - no probs at all with that lot. I gave them a bit of cauliflower last week and not one of them ate it! They have been having some alfalfa for a couple of mtnhs so I am really carefull not to over load the high calcium veg - you need a damn degree in nutrition to feed these bunnys! I know more about their digestion and whats nutritionally good for them , more than I know about about human nutrition! Laughing

After cutting out the greens Clawed never had another sticky day. Anything and everything seemed to go into her tum but it was only the dreaded brassicas that caused problems.
She was the only bun I've had that suffered stickyitis!

That's one thing we don't feed 'Alfalfa' as it's great for youngsters and ideal for pregnant does but it's very high in calcium and also protein and so not ideal for adult bunnies everyday but now and then as a treat.

We couldn't give Keegan anything that was high in calcium so he couldn't have alfalfa at all.

I do think sometimes that a bad start can be to blame for bunnies digestive problems, Cloud kept going into GI stasis and it's what finally killed her and the vet think's due to her bad start and poor breeding that she had digestive problems that lead to her Gi stasis episodes.

Some breeders have a lot to answer for Sad

Yeh, aw bless cloud xx

No I will cut out the Alfalfa altogether for the girls over the next few weeks as they are a decent weight now, Rory however needs as many calories as I can give him, he is never going to be average size for his breed, but he still feels alot more fragile than the girls- i know they are supposed to be a bigger breed but he is half the weight and his spine is easily felt - he is all fluff and no bunny! if he got wet he would look like scrawniest little thing ever. Bless him, dont listen to me Rory, your very manly really Laughing
