Branches and Leaves.
Hi guys,
been AWOL again, sorry!
I know branches/ twigs are good for buns teeth, but which ones do we feed? If any of you have a website that'd be fab!
I have two apple trees in the garden, one cooking and one eating (can't possibly tell you the names) and I was just wondering if all apple tree twigs and branches are okay or if there are only certain ones they can eat?
Are the leaves a delicacy too?
And does the green stuff on them matter? (once again don't know the name) but it gets all over your clothes and hands!

Re: Branches and Leaves.
Lichen - the green stuff. The lichen should wipe or brush off and then the apple will be ready for the buns. Medirabbit list safe trees as Willow, spruce, ash, birch, maple, juniper, poplar, apple, pear, hazel
and hawthorn. - http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Food/feeding_en.pdf

Ah thankyou!
I just read somewhere the leaves and twigs should be fed when young, is this right? I'm guessing by 'young' they mean just grown rather than the ones that have been there years.

Re: Branches and Leaves.
I'll have to find an ash tree too then!
Leaves, good or bad?
Still puzzled by what is considered 'young'

Re: Branches and Leaves.
They will eat all of young twigs (this years growth). But old bigger branches are great for teeth but the buns will leave you the inner wood whilst eating the bark. Leaves will always be this yeas groth so as long as they are green they should be fine.

Re: Branches and Leaves.
Thanks for clearing that up!
I was confused what was construed as young. I've found a twig that must have grown the last couple of months as it has no lichen on it so I'll see what they make of it, and may put a large branch in their run to make it a bit more natural.

Re: Branches and Leaves.
Daisy loves pear tree twigs. I only feed him this years growth tho. The leaves are ok too, for apple and pear.
Good to see you by the way.
How are you and the fluffs?

Re: Branches and Leaves.
I think rabbit nutrition have a good website, and a forum too! www.rabbitnutrition.co.uk
I feed mine hawthorne regularly, they love it, thorns and all! I get apple leaves and sticks off a friends apple tree occasionally, i also get the leaves off a neighbours rose bushes when he trims them and they have some big willow logs too.
Their favourite by far is hawthorne though, and its REALLY easy to get hold of and is great for their tum tums Your very lucky to have apple trees in your garden!

Re: Branches and Leaves.
I'm great thanks Katie it's lovely to see you too! The OH has had a few weeks off work which coincided with me finishing uni so we've spent it all together (we dont live together).
Got my degree confirmation in the post as well, a 2:1, so an overall B. VERY happy.
The fluffs are as cheeky and loved up as ever Had their myxo booster on Thursday and it didn't knock them in the slightest. Got good feedback on the both of them, teeth are in good shape and they are both a good weight.
Had a funny surprise that Jeeves is actually lighter than Tigger. He is so rounded and chunky being an English lop, that we thought he was heavier than her.
Hope cheeky Daisy B is as naughty as ever!
Thanks for the link! I'm amazed at how buns can eat thorns and nettles.

Congratts!
That is a brilliant result! Well done. You must be so chuffed that all that hard work paid off.
But Tigger and Jeeves are well proud of you too.

Re: Branches and Leaves.
Thanks guys
Well done SJ, go us!
Thanks for the link and the other suggestions, I'll have to try them
out with time. I put the twig in yesterday and hey couldn't care less, I go in there this morning and half of it was gone so they must have liked it.
