Charm's not eating right!
Charm wasn't eating right so I took him in to the vets and he had a dental. They said he hadn't cut his mouth and so should be fine...
But he still wasn't eating properly by wednesday and he went back in and they gave him some fiberplex and some stuff to get his gut started. I don't know what it was. Took him back on friday, he's now on baytril and he has some fibre/probiotic powder to go in his food. But still he's not eating as much as he usually does.
Does anyone have any clue what I should do? He is eating, just not as much as usual and it's worrying.

Is he doing a decent amount of poos? I find that when Evo has a dental he eats hay more than anything else, maybe you're just not seeing him eating but, but noticing because he's not eating his usual stuff?

Re: Charm's not eating right!
I would say he needs some pain relief. A Dental can cause discomfort as the burr 'judders' the tooth roots about.
If he has diarrhoea I would stop the Baytril until you speak with the Vets.
Keep going with the Fibreplex.
Try making his pellet feed soft by pouring boiled water onto it and allow it to cool before serving it.
Is he drinking? If not you will need to syringe water into him. 10-20ml every 1-2 hours or every time he passes diarrhoea.
If at all possible try to speak with a Vet today.
Please keep us posted

Re: Charm's not eating right!
Did the vets give him any pain relief after the operation? I would certainly stop the Baytril as that is undoubtably the cause of his upset tummy and is probably compounding matters.

I hope he is feeling better soon xx

Re: Charm's not eating right!
He had the runs before we started him on baytril, and now he has a runny eye so I don't think it'd be wise to stop giving him it until that's cleared up.
I seperated him from destiny while I slept and he ate half a bowl of pellets and some hay which is what he should be eating but while he's with her he's just not eating as much, barely a fraction of what he should be.
It's no use speaking to the cover vet again, as I've said they're pretty useless. One even googled a medicine before trying to give it to my sisters chinchilla (Needless to say my sister told her not to give it to her chin). Everytime I've seen her she's said the same thing. He should be eating but isn't so give him baytril. It doesn't matter that the fiberplex has run out so long as you give him baytril. But Andys apparently back on Monday so I'll ring up then and ask him because he is actually a good vet.
I didn't get any pain relief for him. His mouth wasn't cut and he usually handles dentals fine so no one thought he'd need any.
The water seems to be going down as normal thank gods, because I'm in the middle of my working week and can't get the water into him by force that regulary until wednesday.

The food seems to be going down as normal again, but it's hard to tell. I need to get some scales to weigh him. I think that's going to be the only way to tell for sure.
Re: Charm's not eating right!
Destiny is fine. She wants to go chase the cat around the house, but good girl that she is, she's looking after Charm (translation- she's sat with a large quantity of very expensive hay bin the hutch where charm likes to lay and grooming him whenever he looks at her). I put a large quantity of oat, wheat and barley hay in to tempt him and apparently destiny loves it as well
Re: Charm's not eating right!
