Uni in 2 years time, considering fostering the buns out.
This all seems very far away, but time really does fly and i dont want to be fretting over bunsters at the last minute.
Im more than likely going to be going to uni in 2 years time. I have to move to York, theres no option there. If they stay here, i will be worrying about them, I know my parents/brother will forget to feed them and clean their litter tray more than once a week, so if i cant take them with me, I think ill have to find them foster placements.
I would obviously pay their costs, and if the person fostering them needed anything such as runs/setups etc, i would be more than happy to pay as long as it is within reason. Obviously they have a perfectly good setup here, so i wouldnt want to pay for an entire setup, but would be happy to pay for additions to provide them with enough space. Id get everything in writing too, kind of line a horse loan agreement.
It would have to be in the Northeast: Redcar & Cleveland, North Yorkshire, York, Middlesbrough, Tyne and Wear etc...
At what point would you start looking? And how can you be sure a fosterer is going to be reliable enough and stick to the agreement when it comes to me moving away? Id prefer it to be a hopper or members from another forum, who have plenty of knowledge and experience.

Re: Uni in 2 years time, considering fostering the buns out.
Hmmm its a tricky one. I was lucky and my mum looked after them, i dont know what I would have done otherwise.
I think you have to consider the possibility of paying someone to look after the, not like boarding because they would be a HUGE cost. BUT.... if someone is looking after them as a favour to you, in a way they have all the power and all the control and while thats not a bad thing, they also are doing it out of the goodness of their heart and for three years that is alot to ask.
It might be worth trying to a find a fosterer who already fosters for a rescue, and see if they would consider fostering the buns for a small fee, and maybe offer your help in return when you are back from uni. That way both parties are getting something out of it and that way it is more likely to last.
If that makes sense at all.
If at all possible i would enquire with some estate agents when you have accepted a place and explain the situation and see if they have any landlords who would be willing to let you have the buns there. You would miss out on being in halls though, which if thats something you would miss - then you could always foster the buns in first year, and then find a landlord who will accept them in second year.
The reason I say that is because first year is so important, and in second year you can live with who you want, they might not have been your first choice as they might not want pets, but you could easily find some people who wouldnt mind/care, and then you get the best of both worlds. the last thing you want to do is isolate yourself with the buns.
xx

Ill get a removal van to bring the playhouse and run to your house!kayleigh wrote:I would love to help you out but I don't have anything suitable for them to live in
Im joking, you have enough to do!
SJ, Im just trying to think of my options for the moment, as i dont want to leave things until the last minute. Im hoping that they would be able to stay on the animal unit - they have some great setups there. But this would mean that students would have to handle them and im not sure how i feel about that. Im happy to pay extra, providing that they get the care and attention that they need. Im happy to look for somewhere to rent that will allow the rabbits, but for the first year, i think its important that i live in halls. They may have to stay at home, but i just dont think my family would be committed enough. I also have bunny friends who live in the same town, i may be able to count on them. If i could get them on board, staying where they are may be an option, as i plan to come home most weekends as York is only 45minutes - 1 hour away.

Are they indoor or outdoor buns? are they a trio? and how long would they need fostering for ?

Well even the first year would be a massive help. I cant tell you if theyre a trio or not yet, im bonding at the moment. They have lived indoors and outdoors, so its not a problem either way. They will be outdoor buns this winter though.

Seaton Carew, Hartlepool
Theres not usually many local people on forums, they're all usually further down south.

If you are stuck we will foster them for you as I don't like to think of you having to get rid of them, are they all Nethies? all we shall ask is enough money to cover their food bills and obviously if they need vaccinations or vet visits.
We may have them indoors though as Winters are bad here.
The offer is there anyway
