My rabbits were fed on burgess excel but I'm changing them to Wagg Optimum. They used to get 40g of burgess excel each per day, and I've been increasing the Wagg food, and decreasing the burgess excel each day, but on the wagg bag it says that rabbits should be fed 130g-150g of wagg optimum per day once they are fully changed onto it.
This is a lot compared to the 40g of burgess excel I normally give them. Should I really give them that much?

You need to look at the content of the different foods. It might be that the other food was more concentrated. Also remember that Waggs have a motive in getting you to feed your rabbit exclusively on their pellets - as you will need to buy more! I would feed about the same amount as your previous pellets and make sure they have plenty of hay. If they are hungry, they will fill up on hay which is much better for them anyway.

Is it lower in fibre than excel? If it is they could be saying feed that amount to get a decent level of fibre, but then you have to be careful that feeding them that much doesn't get them chubby!

I've never heard of wagg but I'm sure someone will come along shortly who knows.

They are much better getting their fibre needs from hay which is much more abrasive because it forces them to grind against their back teeth, thus cutting down spurs etc.

As above Thumbs Up

Personally I'd only feed a limited amount of pellets and make up the rest of their fibre needs with hay Smile
