Grass & Mesh Empty Grass & Mesh

Post by Ruffin Sun Sep 25, 2011 4:45 pm

[b]Hi has anybody had to resort to putting mesh on top of grass to stop the little darlings digging. I am worried about them digging there way out of the run. Fizz is an absolute horrer when it comes to digging as soon as I have filled one hole she is at the next. What I am thinking is if I can get some turf established and lay mesh on top so as the grass grows through it anyone had experiance or any sujestions??

They grass will not just grow through the mesh but root over it as well holding it firmly in place.

Can't you sink the mesh ... dig round the pen to a depth of abot 12-14 inches and bury the wire. Or if its a big pen fixed in thet spot dig round it to a similar depth (or DEEPER) and fill with cement. Often we have to think not only of buns digging out but roaming dogs digging in.

Flora is a digger but not in her run Rolling Eyes

She digs inside the hutch and outside i have 3 old plantpots with soil in which she digs in.

Could you try a digging tray/pot?

[b]Yes they have allsorts of pots baskets of soil with grass growing in it the run is around 18ft x 10ft with access strait through the garage wall into there shed and they are out most of the day she just digs all the time that is whilst she is not building nests the run is also enclosed on two sides with walls but I just know she will end up tunneling out of the ends. The other thing is the turf that I put down for them is trashed in 4 months and I would like it to grow so as they can eat the fresh grass. Its quite funny though she does most of the digging whilst Jazz and daisy stand supervising Laughing

Mine *touch wood and pray I haven't cursed anything* haven't dug outside yet. Jeeves is the digger but much prefers scrapping all the litter out of the litter tray.

Still, our run has slabs round the outside, higher up than the ground, and then we have a patch in the middle for turf, under the turf is some mesh.
