First Vet Visit Tonight
I'm taking Florence for her Myxi jab tonight. I feel so nervous! She is seeing the vet who specialises in bunnies, which is good as it means I can have a chat about spaying etc, but I feel so worried! Daft or what?!

Don't feel daft. It's good that you want the information and I am sure that your vet will be glad to set your mind at rest.

Re: First Vet Visit Tonight
We just got back! Florence was as good as gold. She wasn't happy about the jab so the vet used an anaestic spray first and after that she was fine. Her eyes and ears are fine and the three teeth she allowed the vet to look at are absolutely fine.
And I had a bit of a result, and I'm feeling very smug about this, until the end of the year they are offering half price spaying and neutering so it's only going to cost me £40!!! Well that's as long as she weighs 1kg by then, she's currently 0.77kg so I'm hoping.
I was very impressed with the vet, she was really really nice and obviously loves bunnies. I said Florence was a house bunny, and she said she always has to bite her tongue when she hears people say their bunny lives in a hutch at the end of the garden and is boring! In the waiting room was a massive bunny display mentioning loads of stuff, including diet, spaying/neutering, excercise, size of home etc. So right now I'm a very happy bunny mummy!

Re: First Vet Visit Tonight
I was going to check tonight but completely forgot. That's two weeks tomorrow, but I might call up before then to check. TBH with the way they are about everything else I am pretty sure they won't use the evil one, but for my piece of mind I will check

Re: First Vet Visit Tonight
I have to admit I was convinced she was a boy, just because she is so soppy and loving and everywhere online says boy bunnies love attention more. All the way there I was trying to decide on a boy name to change it to, so it was a relief when it was confirmed she is a girl!
She's now happily eating, so I don't think she's been too badly traumatised!

Re: First Vet Visit Tonight
I just looked through all of the literature they gave me and there is a leaflet for VHD in there and in small print it mentions Lapinject, so I'm guessing that's what they use.
Is that the evil one?

No, Cylap is the evil one. Lapinject is one which is still suspended in oil but does not have the reported side effects of Cylap.

Re: First Vet Visit Tonight
Phew! I googled Lapinject and found this really nasty PDF of a trial from 2008 where 10 or so bunnies had Cylap and the burns it gave them. I had to stop looking as I was nearly sick.
It should be banned.
I was really impressed with how she was, she was so well behaved. She's being her normal adorable self since too. I think it was more stressful for me than it was for her!

It was luck more than anything!!! I used to go there with my Guinea Pigs, so googled them and noticed that they now have a bunny specialist. It was only £25 for both jabs too, well £20 as I got £5 as I registered her online, plus I'm getting the bargin spay. I'm feeling quite smug, which is a rarity for me tbh.
If anyone is in or around Reading and wants the details let me know and I'll give them out. Not sure if you're allowed to openly promote vets on here.

Re: First Vet Visit Tonight
You can recommend a vet - bunny parents are often grateful of a recommendation. I recommend Daisy's specialist to people all the time cos he is just so fab.
