Remembering my Horse Roana.

It was 23 years today 5th November that I cuddled you and gave you a full packet of polo mints while waiting for the vet to arrive to put you to sleep, in that time I thanked you for the 22 years that you had been my loyal friend, I thanked you for all the times you had listened to me sing, cry and tell you all my problems while you were trying to eat your hay in your stable, I thanked you for all the times you stood on the pavement waiting for me to get you your mints from the sweet shop and never once did I tether you up outside...I never had to!
Thank you for all the times you proved to people that 'Yes' you and I did play hide and seek often by you hiding behind tree's and rearing up when I found you.
Thank You Roana for giving me a life because you did and you will never know how heartbreaking it was to have to say goodbye to something that I loved more than life itself but I had to, you had emphysema and you were struggling and the vet said you were staying alive for me and I had to let you go. Part of me died to that night with you.
I still miss you and always will, till we meet again gallop free my beautiful Strawberry Roan mare....Roana.

Oh yes I do she was a wonderful horse she would follow me everywhere and I rode her with just a bridle with no bit attached, if I went out on a hack I could get off her and leave her outside shops while I went in for polo mints for her and she would just stand waiting.
She gave me kisses and would cuddle up to me and go in my pockets and take out her packet of polo mints, she would take my bobble hat off my head and shake her head with it in her mouth, she was playful and very protective of me. I have all my stuff in the attic, my bridle, saddle and grooming kit and haynets and even her feeding dishes I just couldn't part with any of it, they were the happiest days of my life those 22 years with her.

She was beautiful, its a rare and special thing to have a bond like that with a horse.

What a gorgeous girl she was. You must have so many treasured memories of her. Sleep well beautiful girl. x

It must have been the hardest decision to make for you. 22 years is such a long time to have a relationship with someone. Charlotte had a beautiful ex-racehorse who sadly developed dementia and she had him re-homed, but I know it tore her apart too.
