Letting buns out in the snow?
As you know Charlie and Annie are my first outdoor buns.
With snow on its way today what should I do about letting them out into their run. Should I still leave their little drawbridge down or should I keep them locked in their shed??
Is it okay to let them into the garden for a run around in the snow - I know that some buns really enjoy that, but Im worried about them getting all wet and cold and not being able to warm up again?
What is best to do??

Re: Letting buns out in the snow?
I would say give them a heat source or 2 in their shed to help them dry off and perhaps some vetbed that will wick the damp away from their skin. Don't let them out in the afternoon so they have enough time to dry before the really cold overnight temperature. But I would say definitely let them out for a bit for their mental well being.

Re: Letting buns out in the snow?
Mine just used to get out if it wasn't snowing but with lying snow. They particularly hated being stuck in their hutch whatever the weather and would go and find somewhere outside sheltered to sit together. As long as they have a shelter and a cosy warm hutch, they will be fine.
Cheryl's advice about popping them back into the hutch with a snugglesafe and plenty of dry hay before it gets dark is good advice.

I usually let mine out for an hour or so, they have no interest in going outside in the run with the snow but on the grass they love it!

Mine used to binkie in the snow and dig in it. Gloria who was part Lionhead and had a hovercraft skirt, used to get snow balls in her fur and I used to have to tease them off for her, which she hated! She used to 'sigh' at me.

Thumper liked it when she was younger, she liked to dig in it and push it into piles. Never for long though. She would get bored of it very quickly and would want you to come rescue her. Bless her Princess
As she got older and seemed less keen, we would just open the back door and give her the choice Even if she did go out, she'd hop straight back in

Re: Letting buns out in the snow?
I think if rabbits are outside rabbits there is no problem of them going out in the snow for a quick run round but I think if they are house buns I would say no. If house buns do go out in the snow I certainly would make sure they are towel dried when they come in and keep them away from any draughty areas.
Snow is not good for rabbits if they eat it as it can lead to an upset tummy.
