Is there any damage that can be done to a kit or buns eyes from the flash on a camera?

Im on a page where people are taking pics of brand new babies and they are on about the flash, im not sure I know mine squint etc but babies eyes are covered by the skin scratch

im sure it may distress them somewhat as i know with rodent babies you arent to take flash pictures of them as it disturbs them and the parents .... not sure about rabbits tho

I usually try to put the flash off when I photgraph Myrtle - they have such big eyes and hardly ever seem to blink!

On the odd occasion the flash has gone off she didn't seem to notice though
